    I forgot to mention that I did not allow the software update to run before I used king root. That could be the only difference between the 2 tablets. I won't try Xposed until we at least get a custom recovery

    No issues at all after using it. However, kingroot will install its own superuser app and I have not been able to replace it with supersu (It should be possible with a custom recovery). Root works fine without supersu but you could try following these instructions after you root if you want to...

    Same issue with smart cover. I had to disable the lockscreen (set the lockscreen to none) in order to get around this issue with the smart cover. The other option is get rid of the magnets in the smart cover.
