everyone, have you found that google pay etc works with unlocked bootloader, custom ROM etc, or is this non functional after root/unlock? In the past I have had phones that will no longer run such functions due to compromised security etc.

I've experienced it with different strains - eg Carbon Rom, but if every ROM is built off of CM, then this is why it persists. I have not tried capturing a log at the time, and have been running stripped stock for over a year now, as I use the phone for work, & can't afford bad call quality...

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. The micro usb cable plugs all have the 'extra' pin in them, but not the wire usually. A USBOTG cable will either have the wire or the link to the pin. Alternatively, buy a plug & make it up yourself?? I just haven't got round to testing it all out yet...

I believe powering the device through the 5th pin on the USB will allow it to run without a battery, but I'm yet to try it. This may solve your problem if you hardwire the handset to your car battery etc. I've often thought about repurposing handsets in this way - built in GPS/dash cam/music...
