I also felt same way, Pixel 2 XL screen doesn't hold a candle to Note 8 screen, not sure how Google has the audacity to price equal to Note 8 with that weak hardware, my 2 XL is going back

I played with it yesterday, phone is nice but doesn't feel like a premium hardware specially when compared to Note 8 or V30. Minus the pure Android and Camera - it's like many chinese branded $400 - $500 phone.

Yes, Pixel is whiter (more accurate, S7 edge is little bit on the bluish side) and brighter.

Doesn't matter the color, phone build quality looks and feels like a midrange 400 phone, next to HTC 10 it felt like a cheap phone. Google is crazy to charge 650 - 900, should have priced 500 - 600.

I checked the phone today at Verizon store, compared the screen brightness with S7 edge and to my eyes pixel xl is slightly brighter than S7 edge. See the attached picture, both are at 100℅ brightness, adaptive/auto off.
