Finally got it to work. Successful sequence was: (1) Cf Auto Root. (Reboot several times, first time to recovery.) (2) Use TWRP app to install. App reported failed installation; ignore, reboot to recovery. (3) TWRP is there. Wipe Dalvik and reboot to recovery a second time. (4) TWRP is there...

You've found the solution. The longer the system is up the more lag is evident. (Although I have found that Greenifying the heck out of my apps helps.) I reboot once a day and that keeps everything OK.

Interesting: I just switched launchers (to Nova) and the gallery crash issue is gone. All gallery apps now work fine. (They crashed/rebooted the phone using Trebuchet (the native Cyanogenmod launcher) or GO Launcher EX.)

A clean reflash of the rom? Dirty? A clean reflash means hours re-tweaking my settings, ouch...

I did; always do a full wipe, data, cache, and Dalvik. Camera works. Gallery crashes/reboots the rom. At least so far.

Ah--Just changed my launcher back to Trebuchet from GO Launcher EX and the Camera app appeared in my app drawer. Weird. Same behavior with Gallery, though--instant crash/reboot.
