For ad blocking, you can try adaway if you are rooted, or dns66 otherwise. They don't add bloat, they just redirect DNS request with a hosts file or a pseudo VPN connection.

I had the same problem. You have to go back to latest stock rom before installing the update, and then rooting again. Worked fine for me.
