LG supports google accounts, Exchange(ActiveSync) accounts, and "other" (pop3, imap, etc) in the ZVG ROM. I believe AOSP Mail supports all of those types as well as some other weird ones.

I would also make sure you have it installed as a system app, as some of the functionality for blocking the pulldown notifications seems tied (at least on my ROM) to giving C Locker that status; when I don't have it as a root app I'm not able to completely block the phone from using pulldown...

Not sure if I understand what you're asking, but I think you'll find that the options "Return to Lock Screen" and/or "Disable Locker on Shortcut" will fix the behavior you're speaking of. If I do the notification pulldown and then hit power, when I turn it back on I'm at the C Locker lock...
