    I read about a more privileged instruction set available when using UART, but was not yet able to see any difference. Only difference I noticed UART-connection is stable and USB modem connection breaks when screen goes off.

    Thank you for your information. I already found the infos I was searching for and made a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/info-i9300-uart-guide-how-to-talk-to-t2928854. The TTL levels on UARTs serial line are 3,3V.

    I am using the same build but no problems so far. Maybe your radio is outdated? Simplest way to upgrade radio is to flash latest stock Samsung ROM and afterwards switch back to CM10.1.

    i did not extracted proprietary files, i used an external repository i found somewhere (might be the muppets one, cant have a look cause i am at work currently). i was using THIS guide.     Can anybody tell me if the last version should work with latest cm-10.1 nightly? I compiled yesterday from cm-10.1 source repository (20130324) for device i9300. Hooks were successfully (although complaining about "with fuzz" or something) Compiling finished and i noticed no critical errors...

    Thanks marcogtt and Chaussette_. Those threads look promising, I'll study them when I have more time. On my side I have strong linux and shell programming knowledge, but unfortunately I am not yet that familiar with C/C++ to adjust the source to my needs.

    No. You dont need to sim-unlock if you want another ROM, but if you have a branded ROM you need to flash a stock ROM via ODIN. Your phone will remain sim-locked with that stock rom. You'll find tutorials in the sticky posts.
