OK, did it. Installed rom, rebooted in normal mode. Booted up! So barring anything unforeseen (it's only JUST booted) It looks like it is working. I'll update this post if needed after I mess with it for a few. :) I also need to do some reading because I have no idea what the Modaco rom is...

Did it and now it starts blue, then flashes and dims to red and hangs.

It just boots bright, then dark, then the twrp splash to recovery. I can see flash.zip in the install menu

When I did the command it did the usual "waiting for device" and nothing else. I unplugged the cable, turned it off. When I rebooted it simply went back into twrp recovery where it was. When I was powering off I chose power off, but was given 4 options.

The only thing I did was install TWRP so far, now what? I'd like to go back to stock and start over, or as close to it as possible right now. I mounted the SD card and transferred flash.zip to the SD card. (THANK YOU!)

Hmmm. I may change the resistor and try again. There is a distinctive boot sequence seen when the kindle fires up without the jumped out cable versus with it. Normally it boots bright, then flashes on and off and returns dimmer. With the cable it simply turns on bright and stays that way as if...

OK so when I make this cable (I'm going to use a 1k resistor since that seems to be the recommendation) and plug it in, turn the kindle on, it will look the same, but be in fastboot mode, then from there I'll do whatever I need just let me know. :)
