The volume on the Gear S can be accessed anytime, including in the video app, by a two finger double tap on the screen. You can change brightness too :)

I've done the build.prop and APN manually. would be nice to have a few other tweaks that I don't know about And yes the biggest thing is rebooting into safestrap. is there a way I can set that up manually?

I only had the keyboard background be the same color as text but found the setting to change it in 5.3. in 5.4 there's more of that all over

my text boxes that popup are off white with white text, I can barley see it. and some radio buttons are hard to see which one is chosen. I know I could ask which settings would fix these, but hangouts is very laggy. edit I uninstalled the update for hangouts and its better

I had some lag on v5 but not with 5.1 and up. Well I do have a little when its not fully booted but that's to be expected.

seems like the only problem you had was using the wrong Slot in safestrap. I didn't use ROM customizer I just flashed it in safestrap but all bloat Is included and the Theme is stock s5. it looks like you can use rom customizer and get rid of bloat just make sure you use the stock Slot. Check...

I use hangouts as my default messaging app now and it does not turn on the screen. I would like to use messaging, but why leave that feature out as well as the home button waking the screen in my pocket, it drives me nuts.

Use Helium to back up. It saves app data, home screens and you don't need root.

I had an extra battery for my S2(amazon), but my S5 has great battery life, so I don't think I need it Watch out for cheap external chargers, It killed my batteries for my S2 way too soon.
