My stock S4(unrooted) with NJ4 firmware is totally dead. It doesnt go into download mode. Whenever i remove the battery and put it back on, It just shows Samsung logo and turns off. :( Att Device Support center tried to reload the OS but he said it doesnt go past 20-30%. Any suggestions...

Thanks for your response. 25$ for fonesalesman is pretty steep but i was hoping it would work without much of heating issues. I dont have real need for NFC at the moment but where do I get yijieneng receiver. Its not on amazon or ebay.

Not sure if this would work or not, but you could probably try. Clear out all current videos and pictures on internal sd card(of course after taking backup), wipe/reset and then do a fresh rom install.

Feedback Been on this Rom since 1 week. Looks awesome so far. Few crashes here and there but overall its really good. Wish the Power menu included restart, booting to recovery, download etc.

If its a s/w issue, better battery stats might give a better picture. Bbs thread has really good info. Personally, i have improved my battery life to 4+ hours screen time after analyzing data from bbs. I have understood my phone better now.

After the last update from ATT, i would never buy an ATT phone again. It felt like they wanted all of us to upgrade, go through lot of pain and break our contracts(and probably get into a new one too). Most of us who upgraded were out of the 1 year warranty period as well. Not sure what ATT was...

To the OP, not sure if you could do an OTA from GB to 4.0.4. You definitely need KIES to update. If your phone is not updated yet to ICS, you could follow the stickies to root and then install a custom rom, if thats what you are looking for.

If you restart with volume up + down, U didnt get a menu which says reboot system now install zip backup and restore ... few others ?? can you check your system settings -> about phone -> Kernel version and see if your flashed kernel is there?

Recovery is the most critical thing which can be used for backup/ restore/installin new rom/ etc.. Cwm is the most preferred recovery and u would get that once u flash the above kernel. Once u have flashed the kernel, its all about following instructions for a particular rom.

You would not need OSX to root your phone. You could use Exynos Abuse APK to root and then use Mobile ODIN to flash ICS Kernel(which includes CWM). After this, you could use MAC/PC to copy the required ROM and gapps to the phone and then flash using CWM. -Vinay

NFC disable not working? I just realized when i disable NFC and come back to the screen i see it still enabled. I believe this would drain some battery. Not sure if this is a known issue. Anyone else seeing this issue?

i was in the same boat a week ago. Am a happily rooted with CM10.1. Here is the process 1. Root - Xynos Abuse 2. Install Kernel having CWM(make sure its for ICS) 3. Install custom rom Go back a few pages in this thread and you would find all the details. -Vinay
