I'm on Fi and I received the 8.1 update just fine. I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet to root it, but otherwise I'm on the gravy train. Once they release a full sized firmware I plan to reflash to get my space back, and then root.

Seconded. Also, what about a recommendation for a GApps package? I keep getting not enough space errors and the seven I've tried so far, even Open GApps at pico is still too large.

It's an OCD thing. Less system clutter the better. Since they're offered for DL as user apps, I prefer it that way. Quirky, I know.

Can't you use the tool kit (in the Android Development section) to root and uninstall via Titanium? I've always done that with stock roms in the past.

Just because the bootloader is unlocked doesn't mean you can flash a kernel from a custom recovery. The (AT&T) One X+ was able to have an unlocked bootloader, but you still couldn't flash a kernel from a custom recovery.

Yeah, you can flash ROMs, but you have the flash to boot.img separately via the commandline. A real pain in the ass if you want to switch ROMs frequently.
