Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

There is no need to do anything like that on the Shift. The guide includes all the information you need to get Metro apps working (including running the Shift at 1152*864 to use Metro apps). Hi, your going to have to give a little more information than that before anyone can really help you...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Hmmm, the Tilt is an ARM based HTC Kaiser, the Shift is a much bigger x86 based UMPC (with a cut down HTC Kaiser effectively shoved in to look after the ARM Windows Mobile side of the device ;)). As this is running normal x86 Windows 8 I would not expect to see your old Tilt getting much love...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

That sounds like a bad stick to be honest :(. The blue squares are replaced with the install menu after just a few minutes. This is all well before anything is messing with the Shift's HDD or hardware ;). Try reformatting it and having another go. It can't hurt.

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Are you going for a totally clean install as per the guide? Is your USB stick all setup and bootable? Assuming you are getting into the Windows setup booting off of the USB stick is it the part where you select the install disk that seems to show no HDD? If it it what was installed on your...

Hi, All the needed drivers are linked off the guide but as the HTC site seems to be up and down today :o I have now added mirrors to all the files (uploaded them to my server). Checked and all the mirror links seem to be working fine :). The best way to try Windows 8 on the Shift is actually...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

SmartScreen by any chance? If your getting the green messages the chances are you Ethernet connection is not working (is it USB, does Windows 8 ship with the driver for whatever chip it uses?). Below is a copy/paste from a comment I made on the guide concerning SmartScreen issues.

Post [Q] Windows 8 Developer Preview in HTC Shift

Thanks :), That is the same driver I used. The driver is also good if want to run Metro or the desktop at 1152*864 (so all the Metro apps that need a minimum of 1024*768 will run).

I posted a guide I wrote up in the Shift Development forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17602535 The guide includes links to all the drivers I have used and the process I followed to get Windows 8 running on the Shift from a totally clean install. As with camargomaia's...

Post How many users would be interested in Android

Hiya, Thanks for that, I am not worried if it is a monster patch/hack set, I am pretty fluent building up and hacking about Linux kernels (I do a lot of ARM embedded Linux work). It's just that I hate reinventing the wheel so if someone has done all the hard work it seems wrong to just leave it...

Hi, I realise this is rather a dead thread but does anyone have a link to the patch set of GIT tree that the 2.6.29 kernel mentioned in the quoted post was built from? Very interested in taking a look to see if I can get an OpenEmbedded/Angstrom setup going on the device. Obviously a working...

Post [Q] Lack of recognition memory card after installing wp7

In simple terms you can't. One of the reasons most WinPhone 7 manufactures hid there SD cards deep inside the units was because MS have some very specific requirements for the performance and specification of SD(HC) cards that the OS will use to combine with the on device NAND storage. This...

The PIN requirements are set on the server side (i.e. Exchange) so you need to have your IT guys look there. It's easy enough to setup. Your 'blow away' device settings are also defined there. Hi, If you have an 8125 it will be locked to Cingular. You have an HTC Wizard and as such your question would be best asked in the appropriate forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=248 You can find plenty of information there on how to remove the SIM lock (it's not hard)...

Post Hard SPL for Wizard G3!!!

Assuming I read that correctly ;). I am messing about with the 3 or so G3's I have at home. So far, I have bodged up an installer that wraps up the SoftSPL (launched using the same HaRET/Linux methods as the other SoftSPL installers use) and a standard RUU. I have a few things I need to...

Post Hard SPL for Wizard G3!!!

To be honest, very little. Both leave you free to flash a ROM of your choice :). This just uses the same 'methods' as used with newer HTC devices and the G4 Wizards. It will also be easy enough to wrap with ROM's to create 'G3' SoftSPL upgrades that flash to any G3 device without messing...

Post Hard SPL for Wizard G3!!!

Ok, Just an update to my last post, I found an old G3 with a broken keyboard under my desk. IPL/SPL 2.17, ancient radio and AKU2. SoftSPL via JumpSPL from Pof/Prislav seems to work fine :D. Converted the Hard-SPL.nb to an nk.nbf (with just the SPL in it). Flashed the resulting nk.nbf. Device...

Post Hard SPL for Wizard G3!!!

Well this thread seems nice and hostile ;). Unless I am missing something all Prislav has done is to use JumpSPL by Pof (Nice WinCE Tramp by the way :D) to fire off a patched G3 SoftSPL and from there let you launch into the ROM update routine. Prislav’s post may have been a little short on...

    Post Kaiser ROM for TyTn

If you want a custom ROM for your TyTN1 device look in the Hermes Mobile 6 section. Some settings, applications, libraries and the like for the Kaiser can run on a Hermes if integrated with a Hermes base ROM. In fact a lot of the functionality from the Kaiser ROM's has already been merged into...

Post Kaiser drops TIME ZONE to Prague???

That is the most common cause I think, our units at work do that. A lot (all?) of the Vodafone towers seem to set GMT+1 if you have tower sync turned on but keep the right actual time. This is a 'feature' on most Windows Mobile devices not just the Kaiser (my TyTN, 200+ Wizards and a dozen or...

Post SDHC Class 4 sd works with universal.

SDHC Cards (SD V2) start at 4GB, use a FAT32 default file system and require block mode addressing (512 byte blocks). Rather then the byte addressing used by classic SD/MMC cards. In essence that means you CAN'T get a 1GB SDHC card within the specification and there would be no point making...

I know Vodafone UK plan to carry it (I have had a chance to play with a beta device some months ago). Not sure on the brand other then V'something' but we are hoping to get QA devices in early July so I guess that is as good a time frame as any. That said it would not surprise me if it gets...

    Post HERM100 vs HERM200

My guess is just like the Wizards the 100 and 200 will dictate the base form factor before operator customisations go on (silk screen, plastics etc.). For example the Vodafone branded Hermes is an HERM200 and I would suspect the Dopad 838 for example would be a HERM100 as it uses the other main...

No, The "Direct Push" email stuff that comes with AKU2 ROM's is designed to work with Microsoft Exchange server. To push gMail to a phone you could setup gMail to forward your mails to a service that uses Microsoft Exchange server like Mail2Web.com and use that push them onto your Wizard. I...

Post Extended ROM - Some CABs don't Execute

Without wanting to sounds facetious you sign them ;-) You would use a private key to generate an Authenticode signature for the CAB (and maybe the apps inside if you need to) however you would still need to install the ROOT certificate into the code stores on your device. Or get your app signed...

Post Home cooked Roms How to

Then why the hell are you stressing about flashing the IPL and SPL then? There is no good reason to upgrade the bootloader if you already have a working 2.* bootloader IMHO. You may as well leave them out and just flash what you need be it OS, Radio, Ext. etc. :D. Less risk that way...

This does not happen with all V2.* ROM's (it seems to happen with some specific V2 IPL's and SPL's (2.16 I think)g). Post How to backup ROM?

Cool, so the iMate ARU2 ROM. Let me see if I can't cook up a ROM with no bootloader (so we don't make things worse) and give that a try. Just to confirm is it the ROM info splash it locks on or the Windows Mobile splash (i.e. does it really boot the OS then bale or just freeze init'ing the OS.

Hmmm, without wanting to state the obvious why don't you just flash the latest T-Mobile ROM onto your device? There are several options from T-Mobile linked in recent threads. Great little how to, I'll give this a try as the other hardware mods looked a little bit to 'permanent' for my liking. Have you got an idea of how much it improved things in %'age terms?
