I'm glad your phone's card reader is fine. I hope you didn't lose any important data.

Thanks. I guess I'll ask in the Carbon thread. :good:

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

I switched to my first custom ROM a week or so ago: Carbon. It works really smoothly so far. My only issue is that there is that I cannot use an FM radio app. I wonder if that's particular to this ROM or all AOSP ROMs for this device?

I was going to suggest it was a permissions issue or something, but then you said you can access the file outside of recovery for a few minutes. I wonder if that means there's an issue with the card reader driver that Motorola included in Oreo...?

Ah yeah, that makes sense. I was thinking I had to hide OTHER apps for that to work. Silly me.

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

I have unlocked my bootloader and installed Magisk on top of stock, and the only problem I've experienced is that one credit card monitoring app I use no longer works due to root detection. I think this is an acceptable loss, especially if I can switch to a ROM that gives me features that I want...

Would you say that version is better than the stock Moto camera? That gives me some pause.

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

Yeah, that can be very annoying. I understand Google's auto-backup is good for a lot of apps these days, though. In case you're interested, I think I saw someone say that OmniROM works quite well with the 32/2 version as well, but I don't remember where I saw that...

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

You're right. I have done that with my old phablet. I was just saying the encryption-friendly ROMs are the ones that interest me especially.

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

Yeah, that one. While a stolen phone with an unlocked bootloader could be flashed, no one should be able to inject ZIPs on a phone with an encrypted filesystem without flashing unless they have the password.

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

That would be very useful if I ever decide to take the plunge and unlock my bootloader. I'm personally interested in ROMs where encryption works; that way an unlocked bootloader wouldn't be a realistic security vulnerability, even if I did have real enemies. ;)

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

Hmmm, it sounds like I'll probably want to stick to stock to now. I also wasn't plan to use root, but I'll keep that in mind. Google Pay does start working normally again when you re-lock the bootloader, though? So an issue with a ROM is fixed by downloading an extra app? Odd. Is this a root...

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

Ah, so I would need to use Magisk or something to use Google Pay with an unlocked bootloader. It sounds like there isn't really anything of value lost if you unlock the bootloader and re-lock it later. Thank you.
  16. J

Post Users with the 32/2 variant

That is not a bad reason. When you say that re-locking the bootloader isn't a full reversal, do you mean that a tamper fuse will be deliberately blown, and Android will see itself as running on a compromised device? I was wondering what the limitations for re-locking on this device are, so I...

Hmm, so with all these good reviews for Pixel Experience, is there any reason to stay on stock at this point? EDIT: Well, positive reviews from many people anyway

    Post LineageOS for microG

Has anyone found that the 15.1 builds for shamu (Nexus 6) are unsigned? Running the keytool command with the options listed on the microG LineageOS website, I get a message about how the zip is not a signed jar file. Not knowing what else to do, I tried changing the file extension from .zip to...

    Post system freezes

Hi there. I bought my girlfriend this phone about a month ago due to a nearly glowing review on The Wirecutter. She's having the same problem, but she's not familiar with XDA so I offered to post here for her. Is this an uncommon problem? I am not seeing any thread about intermittent System UI...

Post Random reboots - how to diagnose? (xpost from reddit /r/motog5)

Hello anyuferrari, You are not too late, and I thank you for your advice. Is there some diagnostic test I can run to see if it's a motherboard problem? Thanks.

Post official build for Potter (G5 Plus)

Applying an unofficial fix to an unofficial port sounds a bit problematic. Do you think it would be possible for Vache/fAlyaZ to fix this in their port somehow? Or would it be more of a gapps thing? Or neither?

Post official build for Potter (G5 Plus)

I might also like this. While Motorola says they will release Oreo for Potter, they seemingly haven't provided any timetable for that. I am a bit hesitant to install a LineageOS nightly on my daily driver, but I would love having the option, especially if it turns out that Motorola botches the...

Thread Random reboots - how to diagnose? (xpost from reddit /r/motog5)

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place but I experience random reboots sometimes, usually when the phone is in my pocket. I don't feel the phone vibrate when it happens, so I gather it isn't me accidentally turning the phone off. I've taken "interactive" bug reports from the...

Post Moto G5 Plus: 2GB is good enough or spring for 4GB?

That's funny. I was wondering this but I already ordered the 2 GB one lol. That's me second-guessing myself. Currently using a Nexus 6 with a busted antenna(?).

Post Weak cell signal; apparently hardware damage. Can it be repaired?

Well, I would say that it gets hot as the phone begins to lose reception, but maybe it's the other way around. Also, I forgot to mention that turning on airplane mode and then turning it back off helps. It helps some of the time, anyway. Thanks.

Post Does Shamu have a worthy successor yet ?!

While I've heard great things about the Pixel, I'm just not sure if I want to continue buying flagship devices in 2017. Maybe if the brand is OnePlus and a flagship costs less than $500 USD. That said, the Pixel has an unlocked bootloader if you don't buy from Verizon. Does it block root now...

Thread Weak cell signal; apparently hardware damage. Can it be repaired?

Hi everyone. A bit over a month ago, I started getting horrible cell reception on my Nexus 6. I'm pretty sure that was around the time I dropped it on a concrete subway platform. I now miss calls when I'm in houses where my phone always worked. Changing the Verizon SIM card and using safe boot...

Thread Is Google Pixel still better than Galaxy S7/8 when it comes to updates?

Is the support window for Samsung devices still inferior to those of Google phones? I remember updates being crap on the SIII and I've been using a Nexus ever since. Also, I mentioned the S7 because I doubt I would be able to afford Samsung's latest model anyway. Thank you.

Post New phone on Verizon 7.1.1 Unlockable?

But after that, you can use the Verizon SIM without locking the bootloader, right? And you need to keep the bootloader unlocked even after flashing the Google factory image?
