I tested Virtuous Unity 1.27 -> 1.31 and LBC MOD v0.5.2->v0.5.4 (my current one), and clearly battery lasts longer with such rom. In sleep mode it makes a lot of difference, but awaken the phone screen is still a battery eater.

It works for me too using LBC MOD v0.5.4, i used the full package (2nd download link) and installed using latest EXTrecovery, no issue at all.

I used gingersnap since gingerbreak failed for me on Desire S.
