    Post [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

Sorry for the MindTheGapps compatibility mess this month -- it will hopefully be fixed in the next weekly build.

Weird, I'll make sure to take a look at this later

You could at least report which carrier you are using -- it's at least helpful for others trying to install the ROM :)

    Post [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

VoLTE should be working as well as the official ROM. If not, then it's either a carrier quirk (maybe need an APN fix), or a bug.

No, eSIM is not stored in system data, and will be retained through flashes. With GAPPS installed (or even microG), you can manage eSIM on LineageOS; but even without GAPPS or microG you still can use the already imported eSIM.

Google Camera from stock can be installed directly on LineageOS without any sort of "porting". Just extract the GoogleCamera apk from stock and you are good to go.

    Post [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

You basically need to wipe all data when switching ROMs. It's impossible to switch ROMs without losing all data. For 2FA, I personally use KeePass to store the keys so that I don't lose them every time I wipe / change my phone, because I am a custom ROM developer and I wipe my phones very often.

    Post [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

The sole reason why my unofficial builds are still up is due to microG support.
  9. PeterCxy

    Post [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

The unofficial build will still be updated, but if you don't need microG it might be a better idea to switch to the official build for more timely updates and official guarantees. Of course, to switch to the official build, you have to wipe all data and start over. I have no experience with...

I'm sorry but LineageOS does not provide any officially-supported way to bypass SafetyNet restrictions. Please look into third-party solutions for that.

    Thread [ROM][OFFICIAL][sunfish] LineageOS 18.1

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device. It should work but I'm not sure if current Android 11 gapps have working addon.d scripts.

Mobile data do not coexist with calls unless you have VoLTE support from your carrier.

This is not a bug but a feature introduced by Google since Android 9 (I believe). Extra icons are collapsed into a single dot when there is not enough space.

You can extract stock Google Camera from stock ROM and use that on LineageOS.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

It is expected because the recovery cannot recognize keys from third-party packages. You can just ignore the error and install anyway (i already said this in the post btw)

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

I haven't tested the ROM at all with TWRP. You need to unlock, not root, the phone.

It's not possible at all and you will find your device bootlooping if you dirty flash the potential official builds.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

1 & 2: I've been daily driving this for quite a while and I don't think it's less stable than stock, and I don't think I've observed any more battery drain than stock. Of course this could be due to the fact that I don't install the full GAPPS and instead use microG. 3: I am going to merge all...

I guess I just reserved too little space for your GAPPS package to work. I'll probably expand the reserved space later.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Unfortunately I am not able to debug MMS support due to my local carriers. I can try to compare what's different from other Pixel device trees, but it would be really hard for me to determine exactly why it doesn't work.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Updated to 20210207 with fresh 2021-02-05 security patches. Also removed warnings about GAPPS because they should be working now.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

The only real blocker right now is the issue with GAPPS & Virtual A/B. Once this is fixed, I don't expect any issue with getting the device into official 18.1 builds.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

@lapper @Chaplan @eng.stk We have made an attempt to fix issues with addon packages (e.g. GAPPS) on Virtual A/B at LineageOS (and by "we", I mean someone else wrote the code). I'll need someone to test the new update uploaded on 20210118 -- please try to install and boot an older version of this...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Yeah pretty sure updating with GAPPS installed is broken due to the Virtual A/B update process. There does not seem to be a sane workaround as of now and I'm even thinking about just reverting Virtual A/B and go back to "normal" A/B for our device...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

I personally think it has something to do with the snapshotting & Copy-on-Write process of virtual A/B updates, but I haven't had time to test it yet. If it is indeed caused by the V-A/B switching process, then there could be some edge cases where it works (there is a code path where the...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

I'm pretty sure LineageOS 18.1 will have Pixel 4a official support at some point (now no official release is even made yet). My personal builds would probably always be the one with the microG patches because I need them and I am not going to factory reset every time I rebuild just to test the...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Looks like it's just unreliable on virtual A/B (or maybe some gapps work fine with V-A/B but some do not).

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

@eng.stk @Chaplan @vivaeltopo Then unfortunately I guess GAPPS just won't work with this ROM reliably at this moment when installed via recovery. The only workaround would be to install everything via fastboot and unpacked images. The maintainers of LOS for Pixel 4 / 4 XL also seem to be facing...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

@Chaplan @eng.stk I've talked with other Pixel device devs and it does seem to be the case: GAPPS and similar system-modifying addons do not work well with Virtual A/B at this moment. If you are willing to, I have a possible workaround that you might try and see if it works (I have some hope it...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

@Chaplan @eng.stk It could also be possible that current GAPPS packages have some trouble with virtual A/B. I am not sure though, because I am not running GAPPS on my own device.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Also updating firmware with official factory images while LineageOS is installed might cause some issues as Pixel 4a uses virtual A/B on R. This ROM now ships with latest official firmware updates, so there should be no need to flash the latest firmware SPL manually anymore (I should update the...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Pixel 4a uses virtual A/B on R, so switching slots does not really switch the system -- that's why you still get the old system image after failing to boot and manually switching system (it fully rolled back). But, as I said in the previous reply to eng.stk, I upgraded from the last version to...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

hmmm but I upgraded from the previous version too without any issues. I did forget to update the build fingerprint, but that should not be an issue causing bootloops or anything. I have no idea about passing CTS, though. The January SPL also does not update the firmware at all, so firmware...

Yes, unfortunately the decision between GAPPS and microG is something you can only do when the data is cleared.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

There's no 4G or VoLTE support? Unfortunately I have no way to test CDMA-only SIMs on my device because my Pixel 4a is the Japanese variant (which does not have CDMA support at all). However, there's no region-specific firmware in this sense and all the blobs I extracted were from the global...

You can try turning off data in Settings - Network and turning it back on. Sometimes if you didn't enable data during initial setup wizard it could behave like that. APNs could be the issue too, so you can check if the correct APN is selected by default.

Switch manually to the other slot, then flash the latest official factory image over it without rebooting into the official OS, then switch back to the old slot and flash the ROM according to the same steps as before. Or you can also try just sideloading the latest stock OTA image before...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

Then sorry I really don't know what's happening on your device. Maybe your other slot doesn't have the latest Android 11 firmware or something. The procedure works perfectly fine on my device. The reason why you go back to slot A after bootlooping is that your device tries to switch back to the...

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

adb sideload the ROM, then reboot to recovery again, and then sideload your gapps and Magisk. You need to reboot to recovery again to switch to the new slot -- this is needed on A/B devices.

    Post [UNOFFICIAL][11] LineageOS 18.1 w/ microG patch for Pixel 4a (sunfish) (20210610)

I updated the instructions in the original thread to make this clear. You need to install the new zip, then reboot to recovery, then re-flash all the add-ons you had before such as Magisk or GAPPS before you reboot to system. Otherwise, the first boot on the new ROM will just fail and your phone...
