Yes it all works fine with this method. I am rooted with Magisk 16.0 and even running Xposed framework. Do not install TWRP, just fastboot to it and flash Magisk. If you mess up, you don't have to worry, the full firmware of 27.1 is now available so you can flashall back to stock and retry

You won't be able to update through OTA if you're rooted

I was on 27.1 when I attempted to root and got into a bootloop and lost my baseband when I flashall back to stock OCX27. I have a feeling 27.1 update isn't compatible with this method and cannot be downgraded to even OCX 27 Oreo

no problem... I flashed the stock kernel anyway since I was having an issue with Da_G Kernel, I couldn't reflash google talk back on the device. The stock kernel is slower but proven to be stable so I'll stick with that
