Yes I can confirm for google play store I just needed to sideload the 4 apk's to the FTV.

The only thing I can think of is if you have Google Play Store installed to try to install an app that will allow you to change your DNS settings. I'm not sure if this will work as I haven't tried it myself but its something to try anyways. You could also sideload the settings .apk and try to...

You would need to order one off Ebay or somewhere and import it to the UK to get a rootable unit.

I can confirm that running the script again through cwm recovery remounts the external USB and all the apps are there again. Gave me a bit of a scare for a minute. Also had to re-install busydrop to enable ssh again.

Yup, these developments are very good news for people who have rooted or rootable Fire TV's. This little box is getting better all the time.

I think it would be great if the scripts could work together and incorporate them into a new version of adbfire perhaps? That would make it easier for everyone to use them. Its nice and handy having the easy interface of adbfire to do pretty much everything I need to do on the FTV.

I'm on pre-rooted 51.1.3.0 and I got all three of the location settings checked and was able to watch NHL after it initially not working for me.

This setup is awesome for transferring files to and from the Fire TV. Much better and easier than adb once you get it set up properly. I have been using this with WinSCP and it has worked perfectly.

UK fire TV's cannot be rooted and therefore cannot be downgraded. You will have to wait until someone figures out a way to root the new firmwares.

Good point about the added expense of the hard drives. In my case I have quite a few available as I recently loaded all my media onto a 15TB NAS system. I could see if you don't already have the drives that there may be better options available such as one of the new quad-core android boxes...

Yup, that would definitely be the best option but I just don't see that as being feasible at this time. Maybe in the future with custom kernel development and things like that.
