Aren't you running stock firmware? This board is here so we can figure out how to run something other than stock firmware but the phones bootloader is locked.

Both. Motorola locks the bootloader at Verizon's request I'm sure. Motorola sells an unlocked bootloader moto e.

Before you smash your phones, try purchasing an unlock code from eBay. I've had previous success this way. If they can't unlock it they just send you a refund. It's usually under $5.
