Thread Noob - advice needed please!

I'm getting a Fire HD10 delivered tomorrow. I've read through a lot of threads on here but so many seem to be dealing with the hd8 & non root solutions & some seem to contradict each other or have been made outdated due to new solutions etc & my heads spinning a bit! I want to root it...

Good man for trying! There's no way I could afford to buy another right now (not currently working) so couldn't take the risk myself, at least I can go ahead & root again now!

    Post New Nook Glowlight Plus

Mine did the same. Picked it up to start reading, then got a text & replied on my phone, as I did so the Nook switched itself off, then back on with an updating message. The big difference is I still have my apps installed, but no root access. If I click on SuperSU It says 'There is no SU...

    Post New Nook Glowlight Plus

This is gonna sound daft, but I thought I had an issue with phantom touches, but then realised it was happening only when I was holding the reader with my left hand at the bottom. I hadn't realised how sensitive the 'n' button was or how much surface area it covered, & part of my thumb was...

If that 'loading' screen is normal then that's fine, I can live with it, just wanted to check it didnt suggest a possible problem with any script I'd used or anything. I did that xposed module that did the long press 'n' as a glowlight toggle, but I wanted to use Xposed edge as well to add a...

    Post New Nook Glowlight Plus

Well thanks to this thread, that rooting script & zerolab I have a brilliant ereader that does everything my old nook ST glowlight did but is way way better. I do have a couple of issues that someone may be able to help with though. When I reboot the nook says 'loading' & stays on that screen...

Post Released - Fire OS 5.6.0.1

I rolled back from 5.6.0.1 I got this as a gift so had little choice but to switch it on & show willing & of course it updated. Whilst looking into it I found the rollback tool, then when I went to use it the tablet was already on 5.6.0.1. However as it was well within warranty & I know...

Post Fire 7 (2017, 7th Gen) Downgrade and Debloat

Th kindle app is still there, I found it listed on es file Explorer but it on start, just hangs on 'syncing account'. I'm sure there'd be a way to fix this (& the alexa app which also won't start at all), but I don't know it. Gmail works fine once you manage to get it stay open long enough to...

I downgraded to 5.4 from 5.6, you can do it using the guide on here somewhere, think it's the in fire 8 subforum but works fine. Just do that, then run this tool.

Just to confirm, I've just done the downgrade on a 5.6.0.1 7th gen Fire (UK amazon bought) with no issues. I'd already installed the google parts & linked my google account, & switched to Nova using Hijack, all which stayed after the downgrade (I didnt factory reset first). I did switch the...

My ideal would be a pure android tablet, & tbh & would have never chosen this, but I love my wife, she truly meant well & if I can make it 'liveable' before replacing it in six months time or so using some story about a bargain used device or some such thing it won't hurt her feelings. I wasn't...

My wife bought me this as a Xmas gift to replace my nexus 7 2013 which suffers a few screen calibration issues & can be frustrating. Thing is this thing feels like it's ten times slower. It wouldn't let me past the set up new device option & I couldn't get into the settings page using that trick at all, just wouldn't respond to swipe or touches anywhere. It did let me in the install from cloud options but obv without Internet couldn't go any further.

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

Ahhh. Glad I asked now, was convinced it'd be an acronym for something blindly obvious! Yeah, hopefully it'll mean stable wifi from here on in. No doubt we'll have similar trials & tribulations once (if?) we get kitkat!

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

I'm gonna flash a nightly later, however the results on the wifi bug will be negligible cos I pretended my old router was broken to my isp so have a new one that performs much better which possibly would solve the wifi bug anyway.

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

I would have thought of you have a faulty emmc chip every time you wipe or write to it you increase the chance of a brick? I could be wrong, I don't know exactly how emmc wipes data, but if it reallocates or zeroes it over then it would logically increase the risk. I'm a relative novice with...

Great news. I love cm10.2 (esp pie controls), but the wifi bug makes it unusable. Having carbon with pie controls & no wifi bug with trim would be great.

Does that have auto trim with the trim kernel? If not, will running the trim command in terminal work with the trim kernel & the 19/11 nightly?

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

You fixed the cm10.2 wifi problems? If so, you mind sharing how? I've had to revert to cm10.1 cos it's so bad, just doesn't retain wifi after a sleep or reboot & need to restart the router to get it back.

Post How do we know if we have the faulty emmc?

It shouldn't be an issue at all. There's a stock recovery image in here & a stock rom also, so you can simply reflash those & return it. John Lewis (I'm in the UK too) will barely look at it, they really are fantastic with returns.

That's normal, not all widgets can be used on the lockscreen.

Post How do we know if we have the faulty emmc?

If the faulty emmc chip leads to a brick it simply won't boot at all, so they won't know why it happened & will honour it if under warranty.

That's the riskiest way of doing it though, isn't it? I'd prefer to do it with the patched trim kernel.

So, I'm back on cm10.1.3 stable thanks to the really annoying wifi bug. What's the easiest way to use trim, step by step? I know I'll need to be in cm10.2 to do it, but unsure how to d it without reflashing each time.

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

Instead of using the nandroid backup (as you may have backed up the fault), try a complete fresh clean install of cm10.1.3. Double check everything, especially Gapps version, first. Then once you've flashed it don't tick 'allow Google to update/sync apps'. That way if an app is causing the...

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

I'd personally concentrate on getting the most stable release cm10.1, working properly, before trying to iron out bugs that could well be image related in cm10.2 releases so unfixable. If it were me, if go back to square one. Full wipe & clean install of cm10.1.

Just sideload them from somewhere like aptoide. You've paid for them so it's not exactly piracy! Not in my eyes anyway!

Post How do we know if we have the faulty emmc?

The patch is a kernel patch, still in testing, but the trim only works on a particular cm10.2 fw. The details are in the trim thread. It's still not regarded as 100% safe cos it's not been tested enough.

    Post [NookHD/HD+] CM10.2 updated 01/18

Does anyone know what's causing it? I'm not using cm10.2 on my sgs2 cos there's a few other bugs & now dedicated developer for the device currently so don't seem worth it, so can't check if it's an issue on that. Anyone know if this was bug is an issue on other devices on cm10.2?
