Is there any workaround for the download problem. Can't use Gmail at all. Even after a reboot, Gmail constantly tries to download a file and crashes. I can't work without email for about 25 more days until January update!

For me, it's not relevant. Battery life is better since the Honor Marshmellow upgrade. And my phone uses 1% of battery the whole night, when it is in flight mode. Thats good, and much better than with Android 5, where it used about 7% during the night. Franz
