Post [UPDATE] Video Links added. GPS Dongle Test Findings on its Performance.

Well just to poke the bear, I thought I'd throw an observation in there. One of the unique features of the Prime's OE GPS spec. was the addition of reception of the Russian Glonass GPS satellites. Only a few devices have these receivers. the Prime being one of them. In all the previous...

    Post CM 7.2 release candidate

I did a new install to SD card with the CM7.2RC Most things work as should. Biggest issue is that after some point, the unit will not accept a charge. I plug the cable in (NC Cable/charger) and the light on the cable goes straight to green. Leaving it plugged in for awhile doesn't change...

    Post External GPS & Prime

No. 10 char. ---------- Post added at 01:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 PM ---------- I see the change by adding the word :D . I still don't see how 4.5 meters from the Dual unit is 'shocking' bad accuracy.

    Post External GPS & Prime

Bob- You do realize that 4.5 meters is approximately 15 feet; which would be 1/3 the minimum you got with the beer can chicanery. Indoors (where GPS has very little signal), I'd say that +/- 15 feet isn't so bad, actually pretty darn good.

    Post Netflix stopped working

I was having endless Netflix issues (CM7) and updates that wouldn't work from the Android Market; Then I noticed that Netflix was available on the Amazon market, unistalled, then got the free app from Amazon, and all's been well ever since. Maybe it will work for you?

Post Business user's complaining of GPS...

Google's WiFi location info + WiFi downloaded Emphmeris data tells the GPS chip which satellites should be overhead based on time & location...allowing the receiver to look first for those satellites that should be overhead--speeding up initial or 'cold' lock. I didn't spell out the details but...

Post Business user's complaining of GPS...

Actually ATP has one of the newest GPS reception chips out there, has both US and Russian GPS satellite reception, and reading through Erusmans (sp?) modifications, proves that with a decent antenna design the thing does VERY well. And my point was valid that WiFi on or off GPS signal strength...

Post Business user's complaining of GPS...

I took your post to read that the ATP GPS reception signal strength would be affected by having your WiFi turned on. The 'WiFi' portion of (a)ssisted GPS simply tells the GPS processor which satellites should be overhead in the 'general' area location determined by WiFi location. After that...

Post Opened my Prime! - GPS, WIFI Discussion on hardware mods and fixes. Light Bleed Fixed

I have one, but these style antenna's are 'Active' or powered; they run off of a small DC voltage supplied by the 'receiver'. Since the TP's GPS antenna is a passive device, connecting one of those to the path of connection for the OE antenna, they won't work. If there is an alternate...

Post GPS... Does it even matter?

I get what you are saying, and I agree wholeheartedly that the subject has been beaten to a pulp. I didn't start this thread, somebody else did, and they asked a few questions. Folks (like myself) felt the need to answer those questions. Make it so this particular question can't come up...

Post GPS... Does it even matter?

I really do like the Asus TP, it's a real nice tablet. I have looked at the Tab, and I just don't seem to like the thing. Yes, I do plan on purchasing an alternative. I have and use my Nook Color a lot, and with CM7 it's been a great little tablet. I want a bigger screen, and a functional...

Post GPS... Does it even matter?

Use your imagination! Think of places where you might want to know where you are but there is no wifi or cell coverage. Think of things you would want to do with that information. Think of reasons for wanting that information integrated within a device you use for other purposes (ie: using...

Regarding your title question.... To you... Not much. To others... I can't say, but for me, I put off my purchase directly because this feature is not available/functional. 'always' = o'rly? As it remains, now, yes, but AFTER ASUS TOOK THAT FEATURE OFF OF THE SPECIFICATION LIST....AFTER...

Just trying to be helpful :D Mess of technical crap from the 'car charger' thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16505252&postcount=47 I spent half a day measuring crap to satisfy my curiosity. the reuslt: B&N should have standardized with normal (i-device) charging standards

    Post Knock-off Chargers

 right back at ya! :D Your Apple unit is rated at 2.1A, but will only 'put out' whatever the NC draws from it, up to a theoretical 2.1A (I never measured over ~1850mA during any of my testing). Have you measured the charge rate on your NC? How? Did you load the...
  18. M

    Post Knock-off Chargers

Chargers (wall or vehicle) made for Apple products will only charge at the slower rate. The NC looks at the resistance on the USB data lines to see if it should charge at the fast rate. The resistance set on chargers for Apple products is different than for the NC. The only chargers I've come...

    Post GPS (possible issue)

The 'antenna' is most likely just a simple trace on the circuit board, along an edge--which should allow it to get signal from the front and sides as well as through the back, but with reduced signal.
  22. M

    Post GPS (possible issue)

I'd agree that it seems that the receiver is the biggest variable between various 'Primes'; I have at least 10 or so GPS units, and there are times when they all seem to 'see' the same sats and get the same-ish signal level, other times not so much. There are also times where my most sensitive...

    Post GPS (possible issue)

It's the way the GPS system works. Once a receiver system is 'locked' onto one or more satellites, it now 'knows' what satellites to look for. The satellites are constantly moving overhead. The 'assisted' data is basically a database-primer for the GPS to know which of the satellites it...

Not all of us out here have the ability (time/resources/skill) to build. Some of us are content to wait very patiently for when projects are 'ready' for 'prime time' as it were. Sometimes little updates about features, success's, setbacks and failures are great to hear. I do appreciate all...

I'm not sure what the low battery voltage cutoff is. I'm guessing around 3000 mV--I could be wrong here, but for the moment, let's say it is. let's say full charge = 4200 mV let's say minimum charge = 3000 mV Range of charge = 4200 - 3000 = 1200 mV 15% charge remaining = 15% * 1200 mV = 180...

Post [webcam support] USB Host support that YOU can try (now in nightlies)

Through my own experimentation (see the 'Car Charger' thread on the Accessories subforum) I found that the NC needs to see shorted data pins to allow high-rate charging. iPad 2A chargers use the resistance across data pins method--this does not work for NC (it charges at the normal, slower...

    Post Car Charger

I guess there was too much up there to read. Spec's for the NC are 2.1A. If the charger isn't designed for the Nook Color (ie: designed for iPad/iPad2) it probably (99%) won't charge at the high rate of the Barnes & Noble chargers. All USB chargers will charge the NC at the regular 500mA USB...

    Post USB host support

I'm still learning, but it seems that devices that use a Micro-USB device as a USB host seem to need a special type of cable; usually referred to as an OTG Host cable. This may not be necessary with the NC; don't know yet. This is all new to me, so I'm learning as I can.
