Very quick Q hopefully... Nexus 5x fresh out the box. Unlocked, rooted and added TWRP. All good, except I'm on MDA89E so need bringing onto the latest build, but don't want to wipe. Is there a TWRP flashable image, or do I have to go back to stock then reroot and put TWRP back?

That's correct for Samsung, but the chipset I quote works without additional kernel modules on my N5. They are included in stock.

Mine is the Asix AX88772 - worked fine but I have to run netcfg eth0 up, followed by netcfg eth0 dhcp in a terminal app. All works fine, but not all apps will use the interface and I can't use it with a personal hotspot from the N5 :(

Which ethernet adapter/chipset are you using? Looks like the kernel isn't recognising it. Are there any lights which show activity?

Has anyone tested this with 4.4.1 ? I had to roll back to enable the sideload to complete, but am nervous about reflashing until its been tested.

I'm impatient - so use it rather than wireless to transfer movie files from my server. Takes 5 mins rather than 30. Useful if I need to catch a train and have forgotten the night before.

Yes - ethernet working perfectly. Although some apps don't seem to see it. FX file manager is happy - so I use that for transferring data from my server.

There are various Stock ROM threads, but they arent clear about whether or not they are stable. I am looking for stock, deodexed and pre-rooted (if possible, but happy to do that myself). Is there one available ?

Anyone else noticed a change in the apps that are offered when trying to select a file for upload from a Web app? No longer being offered things like FX or Root Explorer - just camera, documents and camcorder. Has the API changed?

I have used the various 23 Toggle mods, battery mods etc that are available for the Note 2, S3 etc. Looking forward to these being available for the N5... but development takes time.

Not sure about not needing root, but take a look at Stickmount. Root is very quick and easy - always the first thing I do with a new phone!

You can do this with Google play music - you have to map a symbolic link from the data cache folder to a location on the external storage. Search about - plenty of links to how-to.

I'm no Unix expert, but it's a fairly simply Unix script. The ifconfig line has wrapped though on the paste, so watch that if you use the above.

Bought my N5 at carphonewarehouse in the UK today and very happy. USB Otg working fine (tested with ant+ garmin uploader), and USB Ethernet also working. The Ethernet required root to run 'netcfg eth0 up' followed by 'netcfg eth0 dhcp'. Some apps complain and won't use it, but others are happy...

Sorry if this seems a silly question, but do any of these work with the phone lying face down? I place mine face down at night in case, for and reason, the screen cones on and lights up the room

Looks like it should from the various log file leaks etc. My main reservation will be the ability to get ethernet working OTG like with the N7. Got this working with my Note2 after building the kernel modules myself - hopefully the N5 will be precompiled, or easy to create too.

Nevermind. I build ethernet modules for the stock kernel so I can connect into my LAN for file transfers. Looks like I'll have to wait for the kernel source to be released.
