Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Finally updated my main phone by the method above. What it hasn't done though is overridden the region/provider code; I was hoping it might. The only downside is a couple of whingeing popups when booted about the device's code (23410-02) not being found, and also some network-specific crapware...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Well, I got it to work! I could not stop the host from seeing the USB interface, no mater how much of MTP I disabled, but the solution was to disconnect and re-connect the USB device to the VM, after the phone rebooted into flashing mode and LGUP was waiting to re-connect. I did it a couple of...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

LGUP without Uppercut doesn't work, it won't recognise the device. That's the only reason I downloaded Uppercut to start with. I'm pretty convinced it's a USB connectivity problem. When the phone reboots there's no USB, then the USB interface comes up again, and LGUP has to continue talking to...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Ah - helpful tip! Because of the other messing around I'd been doing, it was in debug mode, D'oh :( I've got further, but still baulking. From other threads re. XP and VMs, I found I needed to install an XP USB 3 driver, and switch to a USB virtual port in the VM. With all that, launching LGUP...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

I can't remember exactly which LGUP I used, I tried a couple. A bit worrying about the virus reports in uppercut, one advantage of running in a VM, I can always just trash the image and go back to the previous state. :) As I understand uppercut, it doesn't replace LGUP, just tries to fix some...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Ah, thanks for that, maybe I'll just wait for O2 to get their act together! I can't use LGUP as I don't run any Windows machines, I'm all Linux. The closest I can get is XP running in a VM, but even though I can map a USB port into the VM it still doesn't recognize either of my devices. Uppercut...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

As you're already unlocked and rooted, it should be a simple matter to flash a new system ROM. AFAIK you won't have to lose data. It's when you unlock the boot loader that it wipes all data. In my case I don't have root, and I don't want a rooted phone after an upgrade. I'd prefer not to have...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

The EUR-XX build runs OK on my other G5, it updated OTA. This phone with O2 region code is not on O2 any more - I don't think it was ever carrier locked, but must have been bought from O2 originally. So even if O2 builds do update OTA, presumably it will only happen if they've got O2 SIMs in - I...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Thanks for the hint. The cust folder contains stuff on all UK operators. I don't entirely understand how this info works, but in op_list.cfg is the line 23410,O2=/OP/TLF_COM, which I guess means it was originally O2 branded. There's no trace of anything O2 on it now, but it would have...

Post Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

Thanks, so what region is 234-10? Doesn't seem to correspond to any listed ROMs. Any pointers to the best simple no-frills flash guide?

Thread Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

I'm puzzled ... I have two G5s (the wife uses one), both are UK, carrier-free, and seem to be identical. One has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't and shows no inclination to do so. There is one difference though, they run/ran slightly different versions of Nougat: The one that updated was...

    Post GPS issues demystified

Even if they use the same band, GPS & 4G will never share an antenna. The receiver hardware is completely different, and feeding two receivers from one antenna won't work any better than feeding two antennae into one receiver (the LG GPS problem). Signal strength is also wildly different. A...

    Post GPS issues demystified

A GPS antenna will never be dual-use, the frequencies are different. GPS operates between 1.1 & 1.6 GHz, Bluetooth uses the ubiquitous 2.4 GHz band. GPS is also a very weak signal, so has to be completely separate from any other RF stuff. (This is a useful page showing the GPS bands). NFC...

HI giebeka Yep, you've got it, that flexible track is what you cut through. I know it sounds pretty bizarre, and I understand your suspicions of it being a bad joke (getting people to break their G5s) but I can assure you it's genuine. I came up with it almost by chance, and when I worked out...

Sorry about the lack of pic, I was sure I had a photo but it had disappeared when I came to write the post :( Anyway, I opened the phone up again and took another pic, I've updated the post over on iFixit with the photo, hope it's clear enough.

Post LG G5 GPS FIX (Soldering skills needed).

I wouldn't go taking a soldering iron to the PCB, very risky (and I've done a lot of soldering in my time!). Have a look at this thread on iFixit, where I've posted a long answer. All the other stuff around the web about springing contact pins is wrong, my post explains why it's easy to be...

I've just received a new update (1.7.4, change log just says crash fix) and now night mode doesn't work. Screen simply goes blank. Post [Daydream][4.0+] Lucid - DayDream Screensaver

I'm getting a new problem in 1.6.8. After waking from daydream, Lucid's low light detection continues to function, causing the screen to go dark in low light, or if the light sensor gets covered. Applying a Force Stop to Lucid cures the problem, but only until the next daydream. Anyone else...

Post [Daydream][4.0+] Lucid - DayDream Screensaver

I'm still getting this, I've attached a log file from shortly after I installed the debug version (which I think has been replaced now by a routine update). Always happens at the least convenient time for going to the forum, hence the delay! See the readme file in the archive. Thks

I've also noticed this, didn't used to happen, don't know when it started. I find it's random, about 50% of the time. If I double tap to bring it out of dreaming it will often clear the keys when it dreams again. Maybe have to do that a couple of times. AOS 5.1.1, Nexus 4

Post [Daydream][4.0+] Lucid - DayDream Screensaver

In Lollipop, Lucid prevents the full-screen incoming call or alarm screens from displaying. The system obviously sees it as an app, and just displays the pop-down buttons for these events. The stock daydream modules allow call and alarm to appear in full-screen mode, which is obviously...

ironia Lollipop doesn't allow apps to toggle mobile data. This has changed from previous Androids. I don't know why, seems a stupid restriction to me.

    Post [APP] Notification Toggle

Hmm, I thought at first that removing the Mobile Data toggle took away quick access to the system settings page where you can actually toggle it. Then I realised the page is Data Usage, and there's already a specific toggle to open it. Thought I'd mention it in case anyone else hasn't spotted...

    Post [APP] Notification Toggle

Ah, rooted - mine isn't. Changes the scenario a bit ☺. I rooted my first Android phone, it had some advantages and was good for tinkering, but I've never bothered with the N4. I also use a couple of banking apps that refuse to work on a rooted device, so on balance I stick with non-root.

    Post [APP] Notification Toggle

I suspect this is a limitation in AOS 5. Each new version of Android increases the extent to which various system settings are locked down and not changeable by apps. I presume it's in the name of security or malware prevention, though I find it hard to see how being able to toggle mobile data...

    Post [APP] Notification Toggle

It used to be possible to open NT's settings by double tapping the arrow icon that shows/hides the second notification bar. This no longer works, though other double taps are fine. Did this functionality get lost somewhere?

    Post [APP] Notification Toggle

When a state that a toggle controls is changed by some other means, the colour of the icon in NT doesn't reflect the change of state. I have multiple ways of switching some things, but it means the icons in NT don't always reflect reality. Could this be fixed? Thks

    Post [APP] Delayed Lock

I've just tried it on my Nexus 7 as second user (4.4.2). There is no lock option in system settings for "none", and I get the slide lock during the period when DL is disabling the lock. No error message though. So it looks like you will always have to at least slide to unlock in 4.4.*. Sent...

I agree with j4velin, the icon looks OK to me, and lines up with the other icons on my phone. Its centre line is the same as the centre of "3G", I'd say the temperature indicator is what's mis-aligned. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

    Post [APP] Delayed Lock

That's a good idea, would be really useful. I'm not sure if unprivileged apps can switch data modes though (unless rooted) - Google are getting increasingly keen on stopping apps doing just about anything :(. Anyone know if it can be done?

    Post [APP] Delayed Lock

True, if it's merely the delay aspect you're interested in. The reason I use this app is that it allows lock to be disabled depending on various conditions, I mainly use WiFi and Bluetooth functionality so the phone doesn't lock when I'm at home, or connected to my car, etc. These are...

Quote: I'm using JB 4.2 on a Nexus 4. In fact the reversal of the notifications is not quite as predictable as I described. Today they reversed in the morning, but then later I noticed they were back the right way round, and they've stayed that way, even though the battery temperature...

    Post [APP] Delayed Lock

Sorry to bang on about this, but here's an example of why the current behaviour is illogical and troublesome. I don't want the phone to lock when at home or in the car, so I use the WiFi and BT extensions to disable lock when on my home network, or attached to my car's BT. I'm in the house, so...

    Post [APP] Delayed Lock

Hmmm, well I think I disagree there! E.g. I've set up Power unlock, WiFi unlock, and BT unlock. If any of those conditions are true then the phone is unlocked. So if multiple conditions are true it's still unlocked (classic logical OR). If one condition goes false but at least one other is still...
