Chrome will never run smootly on S3 due to its limited RAM, which is ridicolous. I don't use Chrome, have SlimKat installed and very much optimized - my S3 is superfast and responsive, I do not understand OP's complaints at all.

I noticed this happens when xml string was incorrectly translated. In some strings some phrases are formatted or hardcoded, or need an array or plurals xml for proper translation. In this case the new translated string is obviously ignored and falls back to original value string.
