To be honest, I'm not sure. You could be able to use it this way, but it's not made for this purpose. If you would like to use it for this purpose, you should get ISO image or build one yourself.

Don't call me newbie, "mate". Android is platform on which I work. Trust me, clone repository and then just pull from remote every second day. It will take less data to transfer in the long term...

I have a problem with transfering/streaimg through SSH. I always get "unexpected end of stream" exception. I have tried many different apps, but it's the same. This is my only problem with this ROM, haven't experienced random crashes with latest nightly build.

Wi-Fi is very buggy. I can't even download any file from my SFTP using FX file manager. Also, wi-fi driver segfaults kernel a lot.

SFTP malfunction in FX turned out to be kernel related. But PowerAMP custom lock screen malfunction is ROM related for sure.
