Unfortunately, you can control wakelocks only when using rooted device. As you pointed out switching to S7 will not solve battery problems. Getting 1%/2-3hrs on 4G is not much assuming changing signal conditions.

Not enough information provided. Can you post gsam battery screenshot from app sucker? I have similar setup and I can get up to 12hrs of SOT. No way that stock will get you as much as custom ROM from one battery charge.

I checked if I can see any difference between battery drain on wifi and 4G and neither actually drains battery. On wifi with with sync on I got 1% in 11hrs On 4G I see 1% in 13hrs So any battery drain on marshmallow is caused by apps running in the background
