Can this be installed on pixel 2 without being rooted?

in order to get back to your original factory state, you need to flash a factory image via fastboot. you can find them here - https://developers.google.com/android/images

Just curious, is there a reason for google to post both images then? i've already flashed the J image and all is fine, but just wondering why someone would flash the I image instead of the J. or does google just do this for technicality reasons?

I think N4F26J is for verizon, as this one has the 3.79 radio.

I found that this was happening when I hadn't yet set the pixel launcher as my default launcher. So do that, and let us know if that worked for you too.

exactly... to flash the full OTA file or the incremental OTA file you have to be fully stock and have stock recovery (not TWRP).

just download the RUU file for 4.25.651.18. if you're s-off you can download the 0P6BIMG.zip for that version and flash it in the bootloader. takes 5 minutes.
