    Post [GearCM][i9500][Q&A][Discussion] Optimized CyanogenMod 11

I'm also on the 20141119 nightly and still unsure whether or not to switch to GearCM. I'll probably do it later anyway, so might as well do it now. Anyway, I don't think there is any point in flashing Gekkehenkie's fix with GearCM as those fixes has already been incorporated by Alberto.

Thanks! I'll wait for more feedback from others about the echo. I'll be happy to make the switch when others can confirm that it has been improved/fixed.

No, I have not had that issue. Just reboot it and it should return to normal.

I agree, both loudspeaker and earphone volume is to high/loud. I don't know how to change this myself, so in the meantime I just lower the volume. This can probably easily be fixed by changing a value in the mixerpath file, but I'll only get around to try later.

Is the echo during calls still present in the latest GearCM release - 20141122 ? Can anybody please confirm? Also, when making a recording using a voice recorder app like Easy Voice Recorder (using AAC, not PCM), is the volume of the recodings extremely low or is the volume normal as one would...

    Post [i9500][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 Discussion

This is a very good question, and I wondered about this myself. It seems like the phone wakes up faster than before, but not every single time. Sometimes is still feels like it felt before flashing the zip. But in most cases, if my imagination is not deceiving me here, wake-up is faster since I...

Thanks so much for this! Just a heads up to others - it seems this flashable zip is not compatible with the 27 September nightly (I just tried my luck, I know GekkeHenkie dit not intend the zip to be flashed on this old nightly). The combination results in the phone being unable to boot. I'll...

To the best of my knowledge, no. I think he said that it will not work correctly when flashed with the wrong version of CM/GearCM, and that a proper implementation from the start would be better.

I'm still using the nightly from 27 September in conjunction with the RJIL wakelock fix as well as gekkehenkie11's audiomod to fix the calls. This setup works reasonably well with the echo being my primary concern. I'll make the move to GearCM when Alberto96 releases his long awaited update...

Just to add my support, Gekkehenkie, please keep on supporting the i9500 for a while longer by helping Alberto with GearCM. I just want this ROM (GearCM) to be reasonably stable, and I know this is a reachable goal. So please consider working with Alberto a little while longer. I'm sure I speak...

From those, I hope that echo and microphone volume will indeed be fixed. After that, I'll prioritize the camera. All in all, it it quite an achievement how far this ROM has come given our limited access to drivers. I agree with Alberto that it makes more sense to get this ROM in a near-stable...

Does anyone know when Alberto will be back? I'm looking forward to the next GearCM release as it should fix a number of bugs.. I'm currently still running an official CM nightly, but it seems GearCM is the way to go forward as official CM is slowing down the process of merging some of the...

As far as I know, the latest version of GearCM is 20141031. Where did you get a later build? Either I'm missing something here, or you are talking about the official CM nightly (for which this is the wrong thread to be posting in).

I'm willing to bet that most of us use our "phones" mostly for other tasks than calling. Smartphones are pocket computers, don't let the the naming convention of "phone" fool you. They started out as phones in the 90's, but they have since evolved into versatile mobile computers. Personally...

I can assure you that is with an original battery. I have three original Samsung batteries (2600mAh), and no other batteries with a higher capacity. The key to getting such a high screen on time is minimising the standby time, and using the phone indoors in low light. Also, I often use apps...

I have mentioned this GearCM-specific issue to Alberto before: This was Alberto's reply I've gotten the impression that this bug is not high on the the priority list. Few people mention it here. I guess most people do not use the phone for Whatsapp voice messages or for voice recording. It...

Agreed, the S5 is bigger than it has to be, both in terms of the screen size and in terms of the bezels. My previous phone was a Motorola Defy, which had limited support from Cyanogenmod due to, you guessed it, no access the necessary sources. I upgraded to the S4 precisely to avoid this...

All modems are stock modems - just for different regions. It seems like we are using the same modem in any case, so I would guess that the specific modem does not contribute to the call issues. Maybe our different outcomes is the result of our different networks?

I think I'm going to revert to the nightly from 2014/09/27 - with that build, in combination with Gekkehenkie's call fix and RIL wakelock fix, I only have the echo to worry about. Apart from the echo, calls work just fine and there are no camera issues either.

It's used for noise cancelling, without a doubt. Disabling it might result is slightly more noisy phone calls, but I'm sure it'll be better than the echo. Alberto, Gekkehenkie, is this possible to do?
  39. V

    Post [i9500][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 Discussion

I also suspect the issue has to do with the top mic not functioning properly. Maybe Gekkehenkie can reverse engineer the driver in TW to compare to ours?

Thanks for your testing. It is very interesting that your results differ from ours a little. In my case, the echo is quite loud and clear. It is so prominent that my SO said she doesn't want to speak to me on the phone - it irritates her too much to hear her own voice all the time. This all...

You misunderstand him. Like the rest of us, ChampMEon chooses to use CM as-is at any given moment. He is not demanding anything from the devs. We're all grateful for the wonderful work devs like Alberto and Gekkehenkie has done to get this ROM to the point where very few issues remain. His...

Thanks, please test it yourself and report back. The echo seems to be louder when the speaker volume on the i9500 is increased. I also found out that deselecting noise suppression in phone/call settings does not change the problem. Also, using headphones eliminates the echo problem.

I flashed the DDUFNI1 modem as you suggested. Unfortunately, the echo remains. However, I'm using a September CM nightly build, while you're using GearCM. This is very interesting. I wonder why you don't have the echo problem while some of us do?
