Im Back...

What the heck is going on with WiFi Tethering ? (not the native one).

I randomly get error messages and when it DOES decide to load without issues, the hotspot is not discoverable.

Any ideas?

still have very low data coverage on this rom :(

flashed a sense rom and i don't have this problem

May I ask what you're using to determine your "data strength"?

If you're using bars, then obviously. AOSP measures data strength, Sense measures voice signal strength. Also, notice 7 bars compared to 4? =P

My cell standby is on 29% and so is my phone idle. Is that normal? I'm just worried that those two things are what's killing my battery.

I've just flashed the latest Radio & PRI and also the latest SZ sbc kernel.

I've searched and searched (here and google) to no avail.

I truly apologize for repeatedly bringing this up. I'd like to know some forum members cell standby levels and a picture of their stats if that isn't too much.

Do you have any apps that are automatically pushing/fetching data?

Check settings on apps (email, FB, etc).

I'd also suggest Juice Defender if you dont already have it.

(Dont quote me on the Juice Defender suggestion..i JUST switched to CM7 from months using Sense based roms and ive had GREAT results with it. I'm not sure if it will work with CM7 but it's worth it if it is)

I read through this entire thread and there are many questions that keep getting asked over and over. I asked gomorrah to post a FAQ since he has the first post after the OP and he asked me to write one up and he would post it. my question is; what questions and answers have people seen again and again?

So far I have:

Visual Voicemail: Flash into sense, backup with titanium, flash back into CM7, restore data. Or use Google Voice or Youmail

WiFi Sleep Policy: Change WiFi sleep policy to never, menu>wireless and networks>WiFi settings>menu>advanced>WiFi sleep policy. Honestly it's been so long since I've done this I'm not quite sure what it fixes but I know it's been mentioned quite a bit. I do know that this will significantly improve your battery life also with some ROMs changing the WiFi sleep policy setting to never sleep can prevent random reboots.

Camera Shutter Sound: To remove shutter sound you need to remove shutter.ogg in system>media>audio>ui. Remove it through Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, ADB, etc

GPS fix: Flash into a sense rom, download MSL reader from the market, input ##GPSCLRX# into the dialer, reboot, reflash into CM7

Facebook Contacts that fail to Sync: First go into the Facebook app and select settings>sync contacts>sync all, then go into sync and sync now. Now go into your contacts list and select a contact the press menu>edit contact>menu>join, you should see all your facebook contacts in there and you can join them to your phone contacts. After that you can go back into the facebook app and switch back to sync with existing contacts.

Google Apps: For apps such as market, gmail, etc. you have to download and flash the latest gapps after flashing the rom, it can be found here http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/

Does the camcorder app support 720p video recording?: As far as I know not yet, but they are working on it.

HDMI: Working for the most part, not integrated into the rom yet. Should be in there by CM7 final.

How can I get the swype? : Go to Swype.com and sign up for the beta, it's really simple to download and install from there. http://beta.swype.com/ Thanks ItsDon

SD card speed issues, I'm not sure if this has been fixed in newer releases yet

The issue is SD card speed over USB mount, use the "USB-MS" option in Amon_RA recovery to mount your SD card. That has not been addressed in RC2 or any of the nightlies so far yet. Thanks aph. There is a know issue that has been logged (#3067) by the CM team about the SD card becomming "Damaged" during RC2 install. This affects a small number of phones with a possible work around of a second reboot after the install. Thanks to s2kdriver

My power and control widgets in the system tray disappeared. Changing themes can cause this problem. Open Rom Manager, fix permissions, reboot.

For those having a jittery video in the YouTube app, go into settings and select HQ video and that will fix it. Fix posted by JAYDIG, I did it and confirmed it works.

Laggy screen transitions and general performance? download osmonitor (from the market) and see what heap size is being requested. Turned out ADW wants 38M and by default the heap was set to 32M. Get VMheap tool (also on market) to adjust to 40M. No more problems with hesitation or lagginess, and I think it helped battery life some too. Thanks to nc_carol

There are a lot of kernel questions. There is a stock kernel included in the rom (a rom won't work without one). There are alternate kernels available, if you have issues and are using an alternate kernel, post those questions in the associated thread.

This is what I have so far. I'm not foolish enough to believe that after posting this there won't still be people that post questions without bothering to look anywhere for the answer but my hope is that it might help to answer some questions and reduce the number of repeat questions.

This, my friend, is awesome. I agree that the same questions will keep coming (for whatever reason) so I intend to simply link this post whenever I come across one. Will keep the carpal tunnel in check and hopefully keep the rude "look it up yourself" comments in check. This forum is incredible and I for one hope it stays civil and we can all help each other in a polite fashion. Thanks for taking this on.

I've started a CM7 FAQ page on the XDA wiki at: http://xdaforums.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs/CM7

This is the only thing there, but maybe if it grows and becomes useful the link will be posted in the OP and we can point people to it for quick questions.

OK, let's make somethings clear. This is what I know from reading the latest news:

1) There is an SD Card corruption issue with CM7 RC2
2) Nightly #14 fixes this issue, supposedly
3) RC2 still exists, and is the version of CM7 that everyone is downloading

I was running CM7 and I lost a TON of files on my SD Card, including over a hundred pictures. I have no problem with that loss as I accept that there are sometimes imperfections related to rooting your phone.

What I do NOT accept, however, is that the team hasn't merged the fix into RC2 - at least as far as I know - and is still leaving RC2 to be, seemingly, the most stable version of this ROM.

If I'm wrong about some of these details, then I apologize. If I'm correct, then this is really unacceptable from a group that should be setting the standard for how ROMs are versioned and released to the XDA community.

Would someone please tell me if I'm either incorrect, or why the hell the CM team is allowing this to continue? Why not change the OP to tell everyone that they should be using the #14 nightly instead?

My SD card lost a TON of camera pictures, icons, wallpapers, etc., and even taking the SD card out of the phone and putting it in a USB adapter didn't show anything. They're gone. Is this issue not the one that's being reported?

I like the idea that you started a FAQ and it should be helpful. The problem is that a lot of people will just glance over the OP and might miss where it says FAQ. My thought is that if the first post after the OP said FAQ in huge letters and had everything listed, some people might actually notice it. As I said before, I read through this entire thread and at time I was developing a serious headache. I was yelling at my monitor "FU**ING SEARCH, FU**ING READ!". I think a lot of people here really want to help out but it gets frustrating when people refuse to help themselves. I've seen questions asked 2 posts after the answer to it was posted.

I completely agree. Put the FAQ in as many places as we can. It'll only increase the chance of someone actually finding it. It might be a bit of a maintenance headache, but we could put something like, "Also see <other FAQ> if you do not find your answer here."

Forums are a great way to interact and get questions answered. They are a terrible way to archive information.

Edit: and I completely sympathize with you about wanting to scream. People have the balls to say "I've searched the thread ..." then ask a question that was answered in the PREVIOUS PAGE! JTFC!

I'm having the same battery life problem. I was using CM7 RC1 Nightly 12 and getting great, great battery life. But I'm getting crushed on RC2 right now. I'm using Savaged Zen kernal...gonna switch back to stock CM7 kernal.

accounts / sync doesn't list out everything. You also may have facebook refreshing more than a lot, push emails, weather settings, some media apps like to run all the time unnecessarily.. look through your apps and anything that accesses online resources could be an offender. Might take a little bit of effort to find out, but it's worth it in the battery life long run.

While you are correct the issue is in the tracker, it should note that a simple reboot doesn't fix it for all. I tried many solutions and ultimately reformatted the card to resolve...although I'm not sure it's entirely fixed because the Damaged SD Card error has come back at least once since I formatted the card.

I do agree that this isn't affecting everyone, but the people it does affect makes the ROM hard to use and worse can have people deleting their SD Card contents by accident.

My SD card lost a TON of camera pictures, icons, wallpapers, etc., and even taking the SD card out of the phone and putting it in a USB adapter didn't show anything. They're gone. Is this issue not the one that's being reported?

I'm sorry this has happened to you, but I pretty sure the message states you will lose all SDcard data if you format the card. Did you see this message or lose your data some other way? I was able to still use my card on two other ROMs and an older CM7 nightly. I was also able to access through the PC.

It has to be ROM related.

I lost all of my data on my sd card as well...didn't see anything about formatting my sd card during the process, but maybe I missed it? Luckily, I hardly had anything on it since I just got my phone.

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Does the camcorder app support 720p video recording: As far as I know not yet, but they are working on it.

HDMI: Working for the most part, not integrated into the rom yet. Should be in there by CM7 final.

How can I get the swype? : Go to Swype.com and sign up for the beta, it's really simple to download and install from there. http://beta.swype.com/ Thanks ItsDon

7.0 final is here. Have fun :)
    27
The GPS in the Evo is the buggiest thing I have ever seen. Before 2.3, we were using binary blobs for the GPS driver which contains who-the-hell-knows-what from HTC to fix these things. Now we are using opensource code that is based on Qualcomm reference designs which is pretty close to correct but sometimes the hardware just fails certain calls for no apparent reason (and sometimes they work just fine).

This is a blocker bug for 7.0 final, so it'll get resolved.
    15
GPS does not work on my Evo (old 003 hardware) on CM7 final. I came from Warm 5, so wiped everything (several times). I guess I'll try GPS Status or the Sense fix again (GPS was working on a few of the nightlies and RCs).

There is still an issue with time injection with GPS. Effing buggy hardware :( I'm gonna work on it for the point release.
