I can't even change kernal without causing bootloop, maybe they locked it down because of issues with Bell before?
I agree with that, would like to give it a try too.
What's the process for extracting bootloaders and modems from the Kies download? I'm happy to do it if nobody else wants to.

Okay guys, here's the bootloader and modem. Tar plus a CM7/MIUI compatible zip for the modem. Let me know if there are any issues with these files
radio-cm-7-GalaxyS-KG3-sbl-signed
I9000UGKG3-PHONE.tar
I9000UGKG3-sbl.tar
I've stayed stock. The update when smoothly and things seem faster but I don't have the 3 button recovery any more either. Next up, rooting again.
Something wrong with that bootloader, Odin won't flash it. Had to interrupt, get back into download and flash JVQ bootloader to get back up and running.
Yes m'son Might you have that kernal or a method to get just SU installed? Would be much appreciated
I tarred it up, not sure if that is necessary. (First time using megaupload hopefully it works)
Rooted KG3 kernel: ... http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8DH9UR4L (first one comes up unavailable sometimes?)
Odin 1.82: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1IKLKDPB
Just open Odin, put the tar file as PDA, put the phone in download mode, plug it in, wait for the box under ID:COM to go yellow and the 'added!' message and hit start. It will be done in a few seconds. Install superuser and busybox from the market to see if it works.
