Hey guys! Do you have any problems with the pc recognizing the storage mode? Im using W7 x64 :confused:

1. In your Kindle Fire, launch the Terminal Emulator
2. Enter the following lines:
su
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb
3. Reboot your Kindle Fire. Then try again.

Credit goes to the poster in the Linaro thread (entaled).

Could you tell me where to go in Settings to do that? I don't see any Debug options here. Or perhaps I have not done well searching for it. Thanks!

Miscellaneous:

* Enable Developer and Performance options: Settings -> About tablet and tap Build number 7 times.

Do NOT turn brightness to 100% otherwise the screen will not turn off completely. Any other value is fine.

Hi,

I have tried the following on 2 Kindle Fires. Here are my inputs:

1. Initially installed cm-10.1-20130105-0457-otter-sgt7-gcc47.zip. Both have been completely wiped before install (Dalvik, cache, system, data)
2. Then updated to cm-10.1-20130105-1756-otter-sgt7.zip. Both have been wiped clean. (dalvik, cache). Please note that I do not understand the difference between the 2 ROMs. I just assumed one is the main build and the other is an update.
3. I noticed I had to do:
su
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb
on both KFs before I can use them as USB Storage on a desktop running Windows 7 and a laptop also on Windows 7.

Please do not mistaken me for a techie. I just found those commands on the Linaro thread.

4. Both KFs have issues with the Time on the system bar and the clock widget. At some point they stop changing. I have not noted of any pattern as to when the clock stops "moving"

5. I have never experienced the wi-fi issues and deep sleep issues. Although my KFs are never on 100% brightness.

6. Whenever I edit Settings > Quick Settings Panel and play around with Static Tiles... the Settings window closes.

7. My and my girlfriends KF normally lasts almost 3 days. But with this build, it's already on 28% and it hasn't even reached 36 hours. The KFs were fully charged after the ROM installation. We use them as how we normally use them, except for the first hour, I tinkered with the settings to my liking.

I have no complains on the ROM, I just thought my observations might help the developer of this recipe further it's awesomeness.

Follow-up question though: Does the new ROM support OTG cable for USB dongle internet? I have yet to buy OTG cable for my USB internet and have not tried it.

Cheers

1) cm-10.1...gcc47.zip builds are build using GCC 4.7 with different compiler options and include some cherry-picks (and possible kernel changes).

6) A fix for the settings FC is in review @ CM: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/29784/

7) Are you comparing the battery consumption with the one you had when running stock?

launcher bug

After finishing setup and installing all of my apps, i continued on and placed widgets and app shortcuts on the launcher (default launcher). However, occasionally, whenever i exit out of an application, all of the apps in the launcher disappear (including the app drawer shortcut). Also, some of the widgets disappear (weather, news and AVG antivirus widgets). Does this happen to anyone else or did i flash it incorrectly?

Did you change any performance settings from the default - or anything else worth mentioning (e.g. any pattern in regards to the SOD, what apps were you using before it happens, is adb still working, if so, grab a logcat & kmsg) ?

Yes I mean I have been staying up to date with the latest builds when they release and have been having sod issues. I leave cpu settings stock and tried leaving the memory setting stock for a while but sod seemed more regular so I currently have all memory settings checked and 26percent. I will try to get a kmsg. For you you in the next day or two. It doesn't seem to have any pattern to it at all tho. I always close out of all apps and I have yet to be able to wake up in the am and have it turn right on. When it does happen though the battery drains very fast. Sometime ill take it off the charger and uses it for a couple mins then go to use it again several hours later and the battery will be less than 10 percent. Exact same situation on my mom's kindle that is running the same Rom as me as I update hers for her regularly. Deep sleep battery saver helps with the problem but does not fix it.. I can usually go the day with using it on and off with it coming out of sleep properly but if I let it sit overnight it still sods. Never happens on the charger interestingly enough.

i have all the performance options changed one way or another, and use them various ways and have not experienced a SOD. i also leave wifi set to always on, even while sleeping, my screeen brightness is never over roughly 30 -35 percent. My display timeout is sety at a minute (annoying sometimes when an app doesnt tell the screen to stay on) I disable notifications to all apps like gmail, facebook, etc. and leave the kindle off the charger overnight. i have noticed the battery life is less then jb 4.1, but nothing that would have me go back.

@dadeo1111, Phateless, Pkt_Lnt: Thank you!

7) Are you comparing the battery consumption with the one you had when running stock?

1. I'll need to research what GCC is. Thanks for pointing that out.

6. When a fix has been released by CM, does that mean you'll be including the fix with your future releases? Or am I to learn how to patch it?

7. Yes, I am comparing the usage when we were running stock. Wi-fi is on for only half an hour or when checking fb is necessary. Reading books, watch a movie and play some games. We are not heavy users though.

I know I asked this a few times already: Does this build support OTG cable that will allow me to use USB dongle internet?

Thanks for the reply!

    Miscellaneous:

    * Enable Developer and Performance options: Settings -> About tablet and tap Build number 7 times.
    * Do not turn up the brightness all the way, otherwise the screen will not turn off completely and the device will not go into deep sleep.
    * The distorted boot amimation is a known issue.

    Optional: Disguise your Kindle Fire as a Nexus 7 to (possibly) see more apps on the Play Store (Updated for 4.2.2):

    This flashable zip will modify and set the following build properties as follows:
    ro.product.model=Nexus 7
    ro.product.brand=google
    ro.product.manufacturer=Asus
    ro.build.description=nakasi-user 4.2.2 JDQ39 573038 release-keys
    ro.build.fingerprint=google/nakasi/grouper:4.2.2/JDQ39/573038:user/release-keys

    You might need to clear the Play Store data to see an effect: Settings -> Apps -> Click on Google Play Store -> Click on Clear Data.

    If you want to revert to the KF build props you need to flash the ROM again (no wipe required).

    Seems like the fix-mac.sh script is either not executed or fails for some reason. I pulled the build for now until it's fixed.
    Fixed (thanks Hashcode). New 20130130 build uploaded.
