It surely does. When I instaled nova and hid ,my status bar, everything was as smooth as before. NAV bar and status bar is really slowing our tab down.

I don't know if the status bar has anything to do with the performance issue. I left it enabled and its very responsive. I only disabled the navigation bar and that solved most desktop issues with mine.

Just wanted to share, i disabled my Navigation bar (via build.prop) and installed LMT launcher as my navigation. The transitions, rotation, and application launch became very very very very responsive. This is not an exaggeration, you guys just have to try it yourselves. Maybe the Trebuchet issues have something to do with it?

How to hide navigation bar? Maybe you can share some instructions?

Surely, but understand that you'll lose navigation capabilities unless you have an alternative such as LMT launcher. Make sure you have that settled first!

1) install Buildprop editor from playstore
2) Launch buildprop editor. Allow super su access.
3) add a new entry in the build.prop
4) property name: qemu.hw.mainkeys
5) value: 1
6) save
7) go to properties and select reboot

What exactly is laggy?

I just followed your advice abbe disabled the navigation bar. But I cannot see any difference at all. My tab is as responsive as before (which is quite fast for this hardware and comparable to CM10).

To all p5 users:

Im back from vacation and read the last pages. It's it true that (with the latest build) phone calls are fully working and the mute bug only occurs when using a Bluetooth headset?

Well, I can confirm that laucher (I use APEX) is way more responsive without navigation bar. I disabled navigation bar and installed LMT launcher. My tab literally is flying. Somehow without navigation bar it is more smooth and responsive.

Ok. What exactly is more smooth? I don't care about the launcher (unless it's Trebuchet). Any proofable difference between navigation bar on or off? I doubt there is one.

I hope this isn't placebo effect. As far as I noticed.
1. The scrolling to left and right in home screen is very smooth (Apex).
2. Scrolling in appdrawer is very smooth.
3. Apps seems to open faster.
4. Playstore first screen shows apps much faster.

Whole UI somehow feels much more responsive.
ATM I'm just testing.
My Galaxy S I9000 AOSP 4.2.1 (without nav bar) was allways much more responsive than my Galaxy Tab P7300 cm10.1.

1 and 2 are Apex, I don't care about.
3 is placebo (neither can I reproduce it, nor can I imagine any reason for this)
4 takes about 2 to 3 seconds here and depends mainly on the network connection.

The tab has the higher resolution (double if I remember correctly), and the S has the better drivers. Enable nav bar on your S and you won't see any difference.

To replicate the issue. Place tons of widgets and icons on the desktop. Also configure a high res wallpaper. Then do rotations, swipe the desktop windows, press on recents, open app drawer.

Repeat the same but now without the navigation bar. The same effect is achieved with cm's expanded desktop.

I can make a video to help you see what we're seeing. It's definitely not placebo, i can be sure of that. I'll post that tomorrow.

1 and 2 is APEX, but I compared Apex with and without nav bar.

Hi C-O-M,

I made a quick video. this basically shows the difference between my tablet with and without navigation bar.

Demo with Navigation bar:
http://youtu.be/vyjGoQOIJv8

what to look out for:
- transitions in desktop, visible stuttering
- rotations are not smooth, visible stuttering

Demo without Navigation bar:
http://youtu.be/QPGX_tJjArI

what to look out for:
- desktop transitions are improved
- smoother framerate on rotations

I know the video may not justify what I'm seeing right now, but if you watch closely, frame rate drops significantly with navigation bar enabled.

I hope this helps!

Its a known bug - installing a alternative keyboard resolves it,

another known bug is the logo boot sequence first part resolution is wrong for the CyangenMod logo boot

For the keyboard bug, i've the same problem with alternatives keyboard ;

I use the KII Keyboard on my GTAB 8.9 and on my GN2 under JellyBeer 3.56 (Android 4.2.1) and i "lost" then keyboard ONLY on the GTAB.

I've tested with the same problem the keyboards :

I can't use my GTAB correctly

Question: if you install this rom, could you easily go back to ics stock rom? How hard or how easy it is?

C-o-M, can you add following lines to cmorlok/android_device_samsung_p5/p5.mk?
Code:
PRODUCT_COPY_FILES += \
     frameworks/native/data/etc/android.hardware.telephony.gsm.xml:system/etc/permissions/android.hardware.telephony.gsm.xml

Seems that this permission is not added automatically on p5..
