This discussion is not about the legality if somebody is allowed to use open-source code or not, it's about having the common sense and decency of waiting for the original author to finish a work and release it before you go on to create a derivative of it. And by releasing, I mean a proper "here you go, this is now in an acceptable state".

All I'm seeing here over the past few days was a guy who could barely manage to put together a working ROM without the help of @Grarak or @Albert96.

We don't need such people in the community, I for one will make sure to not support such creations in my own work.

And I severely hope this thread won't be censored by moderation as it portrays a serious problem with development on this forum in general. Leave it as a lesson to be learned.

in other device forums there is often a thread for unofficial CM builds before the official build is made available.

devs will give proper credits to CM team and maintainer. and they will say something like " i just compiled it, all credits goes to..."

In many cases the thread will be discontinued after official CM nightlies are out.

maybe that is the kind of stuff we really want now? good for us flasholics and no controversy?

Since this has somewhat become a tradition on xda, I dont see why it cant work for s4.

Its too naive to say that the first build must be released by the maintainer. At least this has seldom been the case for CM.

Just use I9505 as an example, official CM10.2 is not out yet. However there are bunch of self compiled 10.2 roms in the forum.

what's wrong with this?

Ohhhh.. Away for 3 hrs and saw all this.

I think i must share a true story here.
Grarak buddy was witness there.
its about JB for a almost dead device. our best friend and a great Dev like Grarak, @Adam77Root developed CM for galaxy R. even samsung didn't support it. That man supported it, then Grarak took command and hence we are having all major ROM based on AOSP.

Once a user used his Device tree and build Rom for other device. He has even didn't bother himself to give credit to the original Dev. They both fought for their dignity. In the end, nothing matters.

Again, our great Dev Adam hurt badly by CM team. His work was dominated badly. just like @doga buddy, he was also feel offended and took decision to abandon his work. But he is sensible and knew about users wishes, love and faith. Due to his hardworking we just in stage of getting CM10.2. He is XDA RD with CM official device handler now. Also, Epsylon3, the great dev, return back and start giving us surprising about CM10.2. Grarak buddy is going to give us MiUi5.So, learn something about to being nothing buddy.

Abandon work isn't a solution. But showing ur politeness and waiting for ur correct time is best. Choose ur destiny buddy. its ur choice to develope or not to. But remember always, One day, U gonna earn for what u have done.

Its still the decision of the dev if he wants to release or not.

In this case he says that he will not continue developing for i9500.

Its sad because of those few words, he easily decided to discontinue supporting i9500.

I don't frequent XDA, nor do I typically reply to many emails asking for help compiling things, as I tend to get quite a few of them. That said, it seems like things have gotten out of hand here.
I don't typically package releases for devices I work on, usually I just let jenkins do it. If others want to compile and package things and put together something, that's perfectly fine with me. However, the device tree and associated bits are still in quite a bit of flux, so it's quite possible that things won't work, or things won't compile.

You, sir, are a magnificent coding genius :)

Green lights for you @doga.ozkaraca :)

Some ridiculous stuff is going on here :(

Let @cyanogen reply on this. I have tweeted Steve. Let's see what he says..

According to me, intervigilium not just porting the stuff by copy pasting but he is working hard to fix tremendous amount of bugs that are produced. It is his honor to present the ROM to us.

Although, there is another side of this coin. Since he is committing all the source and changes on github possibility is that everyone is allowed to contribute / use the source.

As far as I know, Steve asked us to contribute to Intervigilium's device tree, not reproduce it and release own version.. It is so confusing right now. I know CM allows unofficial builds.. Let Doka release his ROM. If CyanogenMod guys have any objections, they will contact moderators..

We can not stop anyone from doing their own stuff...

Doka shouldn't have posted news about his ROM in this thread. This is what happens when you start getting general opinion instead from developers. And it's very immature to get your feelings hurt. People will always talk. I doubt those who thrash talked him know the rules or know how development works.

The code he worked with was open source. And if proper credit was given its okay. Now those who claim we should wait for intervigil to release first is just delaying development. If CM wants credit for developing a stock rom first for 9500 they should, do it, faster. If someone beats them to it then so be it.

Though i support doga here, your comment is quite immature in itself. CM isn't building ROMS for releasing them ASAP to compete with other developers, nor are they actually worried about any one building right from the source. Doga didn't beat them to it. He compiled the ROM from intervigil's commits and CM sources. CM waits ROM to be quite workable (at least basic things ) before releasing.

Has anyone sent a pm to @doga.ozkaraca yet? if not he may actually really leave... then we won't get a rom from him. If nobody done that yet, I will personally pm him.

Cherry pick these commits next time you build.

Also update your proprietary files to use proprietary libhwjpeg.so for now. This should get pictures working. Videos are not quite working yet.

I will try my best to port cm. But I'm still enjoying my vacation until the end of the month.
