Oh this is just awesome! I made a list of complaints, well, really it was a list of serious concerns for someone like me, sitting on the fence. I am a "techie", I made a replica fireplace with real twigs, light bulb, ashes glued to orange construction paper, wires, and batteries when I was 6 years old so yeah, I want everything that is new and cool. A few folks took it the wrong way, I am not perfect with words, so I had some explaining to do.
Yeah I always make 2G rom slots. I like a lot of apps. I could probably weed out 30 right now, but most I really do use. But these darned things update constantly and demand more resources. Slows the phone to a crawl. When I have to wait 2 minutes to make a phone call "because the phone is too busy" (Doing what?), then that is taking things too far.
Hmmm, gapps-kk-20131208-no_set_metadata.zip was recommended to me but if I won't get SMS, this will not do at all. Mind you, I never use stock SMS but to delete messages for real. I use Go SMS because I really like it. I have two other gapps packages to choose from:
103,507,547 gapps-kk-20131208.zip
289,019,331 pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20131215-signed.zip
The kk one is trimmed down to omit anything you can download from Play Store like Maps, Google Search, and many other things. The huge pa gapps includes everything including the kitchen sink. I have never seen nor understand what a gapps "nometadata" package is. This is dhackers gapps and whatever that means, it was supposed to be good. Let me see what Cyanogen recommends. It is actually the
gapps-kk-20131208.zip file. You can click the name to see the page and what is removed to make the package smaller. But that is "The Official" CM11 gapps file. Here is the official description of the CM11 gapps files:
The packages below are for CyanogenMod 7 and above(or compatible Android builds based upon the same AOSP versions). These packages are DPI and architecture-independent, so you only need to match your OS version. In addition, any app which can be installed from the Google Play Store such as Gmail, Maps, and Voice Search have been removed from the packages for a smaller download size and easier updating directly through Play.
Okay, so they should work, I do have and always use Titanium Backup, and when I first open it, it will tell me that my device ID has changed and offer to restore it if I want. I can restore all user apps w/data for logins and configs, system apps should come from the Google repopulation script that runs at first run. I want to let Google put all my stuff back, then run Titanium to get things I got elsewhere. But that Google script only runs once after first boot. Once it stops for whatever reason, there is no way to restart it w/out a factory wipe. I have a lot of flashing to do. ROM and gapps, camera patch, jbx kernel package, WiFi AP patch, then finally I can use the darned thing and would love to have Google put my stuff back. All of this on a clean slot. You can see, with so many choices and so much to do, it is confusing and difficult to get a good start. Besides the camera.zip patch, there is the Moto_X_Camera.3.0.187.apk that should fix save to SD, as well as the 720p camera that comes with the jbx kernel.
I am not sure what you mean by flashing video with dolphin browser. I use Dolphin exclusively with Android. Otherwise I am a Firefox man. What is wrong with the video and is there some URL available to Dolphin that will fix this "video bug"?
The feedback that I have been getting all day is very encouraging. Especially with a new build to use. Thanks for the heads up. Any info on this video issue would be appreciated. Thanks! :good:
