Galaxy Nexus support wasn't dropped due to age. It was dropped as TI decided they were done with making mobile processors, and no longer intend to update the drivers for newer versions of Android.
The Galaxy Nexus uses a TI-OMAP 4460 processor.
The newer Nexus phones use Snapdragon processors made by Qualcom instead.
I hate that that switch happened. The omap processor was what nexus was all about. It is completely open with good documentation (unlike snapdragon procsesors). The only things that kept it from being the ultimate were and still are the PVR blobs. Sad that TI didn't manage to get those open source as well.
KitKat does not need newer drivers to work. Simple as that.

When i unknowingly tried building it for grouper it broke in the last bit, right as kernel and drivers were supposed to build, prolly more than just that, but just what i noticed

What do you need to try to port L? I'd really like to try the preview. I should have enough computing power to build from your updated sources. Would that be sufficient? Are the sources on your github?

Android L-preview is not open sources.
L-preview in AOSP sources isn't the same...
I know. I was talking about your kitkat sources updated with L changes that were pushed to AOSP.
My ROM is pretty source closed. because I don't know how to use Git.

Yeah, using git can be pain but in the end it is quite usefull, so building the rom won't help at all?
It should help... but my notebook can't compile L-preview successfully because of libwebviewchromium. It needs more RAM memory to get built.

I am not interested of trying porting it anymore. I'm waiting for Android L sources and trying to port successfully glass's kernel to tuna.

Btw. to port you don't need any "screwdriver".
You need a Nexus, a computer, brains and nothing else :cyclops:
I think either you haven't seen Doctor Who before or you just didn't get the joke
Anyway, on topic now: I think you're wise to hold off porting the emulator/preview images, code in L is bound to change before the september release and I think our efforts should be focused on Kernel 3.4 until the source code for L drops.Similar threads

Gladly @los93sol has made a lot of progress with Android L porting to Tuna.
So I am trying to port android L 'LPV81B' SDK system (Android L Preview armeabi-v7) to Tuna, but I need help. I've never ported ROMs to Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I need help from developers or users with knowledge of porting who are interested. so I leave here my port ROM of Andorid L SDK 'LPV81B'. It's not booting, it hangs on Google splash logo. Feel free to do (almost whatever) what you want with this port, I hope somebody gets it working on tuna.
What's already done:
Added Maguro and tuna vendor files (not toro/toro+) to system/lib/vendor, system/lib/, system/bin/
Added keylayout files to usr, including touchscreen file for mms_ts
Removed goldfish files from lib/hw/ replaced them with tuna's files and added missing *default.so files to lib/hw/
system/bin:
replaced vold, rild, sensorservice.. + added tuna's files (I don't remember what else)
system/lib/:
replaced egl folder, replaced libEGL.so, libgles*.so files, added tuna's files
system/etc/:
added tuna's files, replaced some files
build.prop edited to use tuna's files form lib/hw/, added board.platform to omap4
added tuna's boot files, init.rc, ueventd.rc and some other files are Android L's files, init file and sbin folder are tuna's

I have made some significant progress over the weekend. I did a checkout of the l preview branch, merged shiny's tree in and made the required changes to get it to compile. The build doesn't produce a fully working ramdisk and kernel, but it was valid enough that I was able to hand edit it to get the l preview branch booting up on my Toro, this is build 4.4.4.43.43.43. Now, this in and of itself doesn't mean a whole lot, but it gave me a fresh libc.so and most of the other libs that are dependencies for L. I should note that tf_daemon and libsec-ril_lte.so will need to be hacked to eliminate MD5_Init from the linked tables in both binaries and I had to disable both of those proprietary binaries in init to get the rom to boot. That means, as you would expect, it is VERY unstable, but it boots! So, having that working I then merged in app, app-priv, and framework from hammerhead's L preview image, the result...better than before, but still not quite there! It gets all the way up to art trying to do it's thing then dies there, but that's a whole lot further than we were before, zygote is actually starting up at this point and we're onto the framework!!!
