Yeah same here. Noticed my first crack on Sunday and I went through the rma process via nvidias live chat. They were super understanding and didn't even make me prove my tablet was cracked. Just asked for a pic of my receipt. In the follow up email they said a new device will be shipped to me and will include a shipping label to return the old one. So yes new units will be sent first. I gotta say, nvidia is being really awesome about all this. But I too am curious how they will make sure that everyone sends the defective tabs back... Il gladly give a credit card number.
Unlikely that they care.
A cracked tablet has little value to them. Happy customers that report that NVidia is handling this well (Like you did, and I agree) is much more valuable.
Obviously, they have to scrap the cracked cases. Other parts such as the battery and the screen have some used value, perhaps on eBay, but they cannot be put in another tablet and sold as new.
If they did not have such a policy, I would not RMA mine. I would simply tell anybody that asked about the cracks, poor WiFi, etc.
If I RMA, I will tell people how good the service was, and show them my pristine Shield Tablet -- That is of value to NVidia.
For years, Apple did almost no advertising. They relied on word of mouth. Today, with this thing we call the "Interwebs", word of mouth is amplified 1000x.
I wish more manufactures realized this.
We will have to return our defective devices first, per the email I just received from Nvidia customer care.
