Haha, I was typing this really detailed post on TB still not backing up/restoring anything after doing everything in this thread but just a few minutes ago TB gave a notification that I should turn off 'Mount namespace separation' in SuperSU. I did that, rebooted and everything worked!
FYI (if it helps anyone):
Enable "Migrate system data" in TB settings. App processing mode can be set to AUTO, Direct.
I formatted the Ext4 partition before linking back stuff with Link2SD, that always gives me trouble otherwise.
TitaniumBackup folder is settled on the root of the external SD (not /storage/emulated/legacy), it can stay there.
Read-write access was already enabled (SDFix told me).
Don't bother with batch restore, it'll freeze up after one or two apps.
