Sony mastered software stabilisation on their Z5 and Z5P

Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I am not sure 'mastered' is the word I would use. The algorithm is pretty much worthless if you have any major motion in the frame. It's OK if you are not moving and your subject is not moving, but most anything else exhibits this disconcerting 'breathing' effect that IMHO is worse than a little camera shake.

Couple of pics from a live show (Steven Wilson). Only took a few shots since I hate to be that guy with his camera out. Very low fail rate, pics are almost exclusively useable...video screen at the back looks a bit funny, I think that's because of hdr+

I'm still waiting on my 128GB Graphite to come in. The reason I purchased this phone is for the superior SENSOR that this phone has. I am an event photographer (weddings, sweet 16s, bar/bat mitzvahs) and one of my primary criteria for a phone is an excellent camera. I use all professional NIKON equipment on the weekends for my paid work. I rarely carry around this big heavy gear (mostly due to the Lenses) for personal use. I believe the Nexus 6Ps sensor is the biggest breakthrough in cellphone camera technology since HTCs hoopla over their "Ultra Pixel" sensor. HTC had the right idea...just didn't implement it very well. First off the sensor in the Nexus 6P is taken from a design straight out of a sony camcorder. This means it is a physically larger sensor than most cell phones. A larger sensor means being able to have a greater distance between the light pixels themselves. Having a greater distance between these light pixels means less electrical noise or "cross-talk" between them while gathering light. This in translation means less graininess while taking pictures in subpar lighting conditions which is probably 85% of mobile phone picture taking. This is where all the Note5 and S6 users yell out..."hey our camera is better!!" Let me just first state that I'm coming from a long line of Samsung devices (S3, Note2, S4, Note3, Note4) and I thing pictures from these devices were fabulous for the time of their lifespan. The S6 and Note5 also take phenomenal pictures. Looking closely at the pictures, I think Samsung's software is getting n the way too much. The camera app is probably the best around. I'm talking about the over sharpening during the post processing. For a higher megapixel sensor you would think it would produce more detail than the Nexus 6Ps images. This may be true under ideal lighting conditions. But, once lighting conditions are anything but ideal, is where the Nexus 6Ps larger sensor shines. The Samsung software also uses higher ISO levels on average, further exacerbating the visible noise detected, especially around the edges of objects in the focal plane of its images. In conclusion, both phones will give you great pictures, but anyone who really appreciates photography will be able to tell the difference in contrast, detail retention and color reproduction, and will prefer the Nexus 6P.

    Hey all,

Although i haven't found any reviews after today's Google event with test pictures. theverge.com has " the first images from the new Nexus 5X and 6P camera". I'm unsure of the EXIF data on these, but its a start... enjoy!

She has a Nexus 6P, and has taken a few pictures.

Instagram ones though, so they are compressed but still worth a view. :)

    Camera is looking solid indeed!
