【Release Notes】
Software update to Android 6.0 Mashmallow. Internal storage will decrease slightly after update, it is recommended back up data and relocate media files (pictures & vides) to SD card to reserve enough storage before starting the software update.
Android Marshmallow won't support APP2SD. Please move apps to internal storage before system upgrades.
Multi-user function won't be supported if the account is deleted. Please keep your account to continue usage.
The apps listed below will no longer be pre-loadeded once your device has been upgraded to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

Hi, I do not speak English very well, but I'll try.

First go to the website of Asus, and download the firmware .. 184 or this link (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Ze...user.zip?_ga=1.147549438.850793534.1463019251) and put the external SD Card!!!

NOTE: If your bootloader is similar to the image (with the blue letters ..), you just need to step 3 of this my turorial

1. Go to this page (https://www.techmesto.com/root-zenfone-2/) and follow the steps of the second method..
1.1 Download Z00A_WW_2.20.40.184 version (https://mega.co.nz/#F!k4MHiAgL!dVuOKeH3eokcwPSNI79ffw)
1.2 Download and extract FlashTools (http://xdaforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3301263&d=1431011927)
1.3 Extract Z00A_WW_2.20.40.184_system_w_root.zip (for step 1.1) and put the "system.img" in the folder of FlashTools together with "boot.img", "droidboot.img" and "recovery.img"
2. Now follow the steps of the second method (https://www.techmesto.com/root-zenfone-2/), from step 7 to 11;
3. Also I was stuck in the bootloader after this procedure... BUT, you need to download this file (the first method): http://www.mediafire.com/download/v6m7n9j0gqins9b/CWM_Zenfone_2_Intel.zip;
3.1 And follow the steps from 1 to 9 (the first method): https://www.techmesto.com/root-zenfone-2/... EXCEPT: The steps include the root (you do not need the root ..)
3.2 When you are already in CWM recovery, only install the firmware 184 (of start.. of Asus) which is in the external SD Card ... and end ^^.
3.3 I recommend wipe data / factory after starting the device first time...

Downgrading back to .184 - here's how to do it

This morning I tried downgrading, and ended up soft bricking my phone. After 3 hours of searching and testing different methods (all of which failed), I chanced upon this Reddit post post which was God-send.

Here's what I did -

1. I put the stock firmware (ZIP) file on to my external sdcard
2. Then, using the cai_dat_CWM.bat file which i have been using for a long time to root my Zenfone (found here), I followed the steps as I normally do - Type ACCEPT, then type T4. Once it boots up into bootloader and installs custom recovery, I simply selected the option to "install zip from sdcard".

(The cai_dat_CWM file used above was for ZE500CL. You can get the steps and files for ZE551ML HERE.

Finally, I was able to get stock firmware up and running on my Zenfone 2 ZE551ML (4GB).
And later, I reverted back to stock recovery, by following the usual steps of fastboot.

So they must have faked also the new app permissions system, memory management, and whatever else... you serious?

Full ROM usually available a few days to a week after the ota

I always go with the tried and tested method of moving it to the SD card, renaming it MOFD_SDUPDATE, then booting into recovery. Just done my Z008 - has completed the update and is optimising apps at present
