There are several websites offering lineageos roms (try 'lineageos download'). May we assume they are fake, hacking attempts?

There are some sites with unofficial compiled versions. These are maintained by some people that can be found (most of the time) at the LineageOS IRC on freenode
When there are official builds, there will be a blog post at http://lineageos.org/.
