Help needed to 'unbrick' star n9770!

Hi,i have read this thread and am hoping that others can advice and help me.
My phone details are;

MODEL: STAR N9770
ANDROID VERSION:4.1.1 JELLY BEAN
BUILD NUMBER(STOCK ROM):e1909l_v77_gq1008_a41_v20_20130114
BASEBAND VERSION:MAUI.11 AMD.W12.22.SP.V15.P2,2013/01/06 11:12
KERNEL VERSION:3.4.0 root@zhangjianan-desktop)#1 SMP PREEMPT FRI JAN 18 10:14:09 CST 2013

the above details i noted down when first got phone.
I was looking to install CWM and ROOT my phone when it became BRICKED.
I used SP FLASH TOOL and i flashed this ROM :e1909c_v77_gq1008_a41_6628_20130109
THIS BRICKED THE DEVICE,IT WOULD NOT TURN ON,CHARGE,ENTER RECOVERY MODE,ETC

from advice from others on xda and reading this current thread i tried to activate META MODE but no joy.i dismantled phone and looked for TESTPOINT.searching for FACTORY ROM i came across this.

STAR N9770 ROM 4.1.1 JELLYBEAN :e1909l_v77_gq1008_a41_v20_20130129

i used SP FLASH TOOL while holding TESTPOINT and ROM loaded all the way and GREEN CIRCLE and DOWNLOAD OK

PHONE STILL BRICK
on PC windows when phone is connected via usb cable in DEVICES AND PRINTERS the phone is RECOGNISED for about 6 SECONDS then disengaged and engages again.
in DEVICE MANAGER MTK USB PORT (COM 42) engages and disengages also.under device properties it says it is functioning properly.

I TRIED FLASH AGAIN WITH SP FLASH TOOL WITH PHONE FULLY CLOSED,NOT USING META MODE,OR TESTPOINT(PHONE SCREWED SHUT) AND SP FLASH TOOL RUNS THROUGH LIKE A DREAM TO DOWNLOAD OK GREEN CIRCLE.I TAKE IT I DON'T NEED
TESTPOINT ANYMORE! BUT STILL BRICK!!

if you could kindly help in any way i would be very greatful.i have only had this phone a week! and would be happy if it can be revived thankyou

P.S. I HAVE NOT GOT A COPY OR BACKUP OF MY FACTORY ROM BUT AM ACTIVELY SEEKING IT!!

YUWENG,CYBERMAUS AND OTHERS DO YOU HAVE A SOLUTION PLEASE

As said, not all devices have this built-in META mode then you have to hunt for testpoint... :fingers-crossed:

However, i'm quite sure Lenovo has this META mode its just that they change the combination on different models...

AFAIK, to enable download mode for Lenovo, at SPFT, first click at Download or Firmware -> Upgrade if you have the complete files
1) A789 - Holding Volume Up, don't let go then plugin USB cable
2) P700 - With USB cable connected, Press both Volume Up/ Down then insert the battery
3) A60 - With USB cable connected, Press & Hold Camera + Power

Try other combinations too if it doesn't work... :fingers-crossed:

Good Luck...

YUWENG,CYBERMAUS AND OTHERS DO YOU HAVE A SOLUTION PLEASE
i've said this many times on this thread & also reply many who pm me, DO NOT JUST FLASH ROM TAKEN FROM THE WEB & make a backup with MTK Droid Tools first before you do anything...
ids_emoticon_wilted.gif

Since end of last year, Mediatek has update their chipset which is supposed to be compatible but many manufacturer change camera, LCD module & sensor as well & lately JB ROM update & all these SPFT files will brick your device...
alamak.gif

The partition layout for ICS & JB ROM change as well so you will definitely need to reflash a complete set of SPFT files that is meant for your device...

And i've just found out from china.iphone.ru, for MT6577 Star N9776, the manufacturer actually downgrade its SoC to MT6575.... Thats why its cheaper & some update it to latest JB ROM & brick it...

i've just updated the guide here just for you guys & hopefully a good samaritan will follow that guide & upload his/ her Factory ROM just for you... :fingers-crossed:

Haha, coincidentally that i'm also online now so normally i'll reply to any queries & questions... ;)

As said previously, AFAIK, few users are actually using ROMs from other devices since they cannot find their Factory ROM & they are quite happy with it...

Luckily, most MT657x ROMs are compatible for use however may be few other function such as camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS & etc might not work but most importantly, at least you could still make calls out of it... :D

No worries, Star N9770 is quite famous & unlike those unknown brands, so i guess sooner or later i'm sure you'll find the Factory ROM... :fingers-crossed:

Good Luck...

Thanks for your quick answer.

Strangely, I have the same results if I press some buttons or don't. The behaviour of the tool/load is exactly the same.

This is the last error that I had. Is there any way to remove those bad blocks explained in the "hint"?

N8000+ don't start with TP

Hi friends!
I have a N8000+ brick. The problem is that I confused that model with N9770, and I install it a ROM to solve a problem with boot. I did with flash tool. The rom allowed the phone boot, but the camera and wifi didn't run. I see that I install the wrong ROM and I flash again the device with another ROM (presumably correct). The problem comes here. The phone don't start up, don't charge and PC doesn't recognizes it. I see in the thread and I found the test point of my phone. I try to flash with flash tool and the test point and it gives me this error.

S_COM_PORT_OPEN_FAIL(1013)
(COM)Failed to open COM32

Please help me, I don't know how to unbrick this phone =(

EXACT SAME FACTORY ROM AS MY PHONE?
Hmmm, since you mention you had it just a week & you have already flash all the correct ROMs for N9770 then i think may be you are facing the same problem as the guys from china.iphone.ru, his Factory ROM backup shows that it is indeed a MT6575...

Is there any way to remove those bad blocks explained in the "hint"?
Typically, when you flash ROMs, you don't need to format it first but you can try...

Indeed your A60+ has the META mode, refer to here & here & here...

Please help me, I don't know how to unbrick this phone =(
Let me share with you guys my recent experience on upgrading my N9776 with JB ROM, i've ask Aivars from china.iphone.ru to backup his Factory ROM, he is so kind & he uploads his backups within 2 hours & its size close to 300mb ! But he didn't do a full backup so usrdata & cache is not included but the flashing went through with no problem then nothing shows up & i realize it is already bricked even its from the same model...

i tried whatsoever methods that i know & at last i have no choice but to dismantle my whole phone apart & void warranty to use the testpoint...
ids_emoticon_wilted.gif

And to my surprise, even with the testpoint i'm getting all sort of same error you guys are getting here then i remember i had a Factory ROM backup made with MTK Droid Tools V2.2.8 at that time, burned to a DVD-ROM backup, flashed it & it went in all that way & it even work without testpoint...

So this experience clearly confirms, Factory ROM backups from your device made via MTK Droid Tools is a very important backup copy...

Nothing seems to work with my A60+ , it is completly "unbrickable". It is officially dead.

What is the last official verion of Flahs Tool?

On the other hand, my PC first detect this usb port:

201302141326001.png

And while SPFT is running (dowload, firmware-upgrade), detects that:

Is it correct?

AFAICR, without META mode or TP, nothing will show at Device Manager -> Ports...

You cannot use latest SPFT for your old device, it will just refuse to work, use those previous SPFT listed at those site i've link earlier & i'm sure you'll have your A60+ back... :fingers-crossed:

I had tested at least three different versions of SPFT, 5 different factory roms, multi port flash tool...

Any version that you recommend?

SP Flash Tool v2.1134.00 was released for MT65x3. I can see that you have a Lenovo A60+, which is MT6575 based, and that's why the tool is considering the scatter file invalid. You have to use SP Flash Tool v3.1206.01 or higher. ;)

I'm using right now SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1248.0.96.

I'm trying to recover my phone loading piece by piece... (boot, system, etc..)

Apart of preloader and system that they want to load, the rest of pieces seems to load well.

EDIT: The only piece that I cannot load is the most important one... preloader

EDIT2: Here a video with my problem http://www.screencast.com/t/8awoM5wD322

And this is the content of BROM_DLL_V5.log from SPFT:

02/14/13 20:22:37.983 BROM_DLL[5972][1644]: ERROR: DA_cmd::CMD_FormaFlash(): [32<->64] format(3%): "S_DA_NAND_UNKNOWN_ERR"(3040) error!Occur at erase_addr(0x0000000002440000), stop format! (FlashToolLib/sv5/common/generic/src/da_cmd.cpp:1242)

The Testpoint doesn't run

Hi again friends!
When I connect the Testpoint the PC recognizes the phone, but it disconnect quickly. I think that this is the problem that will not let me use FlashTool (It givis me an error that I wrote before). Someone who knows the problem? I think that If the PC recognizes for more time the phone, i would restart the phone.

some help needed

Hello guys, i did a really stupid thing and I kindly need someone's help. I have an Allview P5, it's a dual core mt6577 processor, 512 ram, 4gb rom and dual sim. I've rooted it and installed cwm without a problem, but I bricked it with a custom rom. I did a backup in CWM, but I can't enter in CWM now. The good think is that the Flash tool stil recognizes my devices as beeing mediatek preloader usb.

I think the only solution for me is a stock rom to flash. If someone could help me with that, maybe someone has this phone and could make a full backup or could suggest me a similar one. I've attached a scatter if that helps, if someone needs other informations please tell me.

Yeah, I know I did a stupid thing and know I wait for a miracle, but I would be very gratefull if someone could help me.

Thanks in advance guys and continue doing this awseome job ;).

Another problem is that the PC doesn't recognize the device as a Preloader USB VCOM when I use the Testpoint method. I have got another mtk phone and when I connect it without batery, the pc recognizes the phone as a Preloader USB VCOM, therefore, I think that the drivers aren't the problem. Can someone help me please? Thanks again.

i've seen far too many times that fellow xda member make this same mistake over & over again, including myself...
    tongue.gif

So pls pls people, don't use SP Flash Tool to download ROM not meant for your phone, it will brick it & there is no way to revive it back ! After you have download wrong PRELOADER, your phone will be completely dead, cannot power on, no charging, no recovery, no PreLoader USB vcom detection & you can say
    rip.jpg
    to it...

Here is the WARNING again :

NEVER DOWNLOAD ROM NOT MEANT FOR YOUR PHONE. IT WILL BRICK IT !
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Even with the the WARNING & you still do it...
    alamak.gif

Inspired by fellow xda member to start this thread to help out other xda member that run in to similar problem so here are the solution but it might not work for all MT65xx... :fingers-crossed:

If you have already brick it by flashing wrong PRELOADER then you still have a 50/ 50 chance to revive it so keep you fingers-crossed... :fingers-crossed:

    For MT6573
Requirement : Your MT6573 factory ROM, SP Flash Tool
MT6573 Meta Driver - If you don't have, download it from here
First you will need to open Device Manager, switch off your phone, press & hold Menu button but don't let go, now plug-in your usb cable will activate META mode(Thanks to Master Shifu Cybermaus for his insight knowledge)...You'll notice Mediatek USB VCOM will appear at Device Manager -> Ports

Mediatek USB VCOM will stay connected until you download factory ROM then it will auto disconnect, reconnect as PRELOADER USB VCOM & continue downloading...

After factory ROM download completed, it will be auto disconnected & you'll have your phone raise from the dead !

This hidden feature will enable you to download factory ROM when you brick it by flashing wrong PRELOADER meant for other phone however for some MT6573 there is no way to access META mode except by dismantling the whole phone...

If you can't find your model factory ROM, try to hunt for similar ROM. I have had feedback from fellow xda member it actually works ! Luckily, most MT65xx ROM are very similar to each other. Try to look for similarity at build.prop -> ro.build.product for eg, typical build are bird73_gb , e1109_v73_jy1, huaqin73_gb, tinnoes73_s8030_2g, mt73_w831_a9100_yingt & etc... google search is your friend... :good:

    For MT6575/ 77
With the battery out, hold the volume up, don't let go & plug in the USB cable will activate META mode for few seconds...Typically, you need to click Download at SP Flash Tool before entering META mode or it will auto disconnected...

If all doesn't work & you don't have a local service center for your MT65xx then may be you would want to try rua1's method but its not for the ordinary user... :fingers-crossed: Use google chrome for translation...

Attach is few photos that i've downloaded from that forum as it can only be viewed by members at that forum.... :good:

Added on Nov 23, 2012 - MT65xx is truly UNBRICKABLE

it seems that MT65xx is really 'unbrickable' thanks to whitetigerdk who inform me with his how-tos :good:

So you can raise your DEAD MT65xx back to life... :D

The trick is quite simple, for whitetigerdk case, he flash his GooPhone Y5 with Zopo100 factory ROM & the phone went DEAD...

He proceed to reinstall preloader driver from Zopo & was able to use FlashTool again and flash back his factory GooPhone ROM & thats how he brought back his MT6575 back to life... :good:

    Updates
i've pm'ed whitetigerdk & got a reply from him confirming that indeed his GooPhone Y5 has this META mode built-in (plug in USB while holding VOL +)

Device Manager will detect new device... Having said that, not all MT65xx device has this feature...

Added on Dec 20, 2012 - DO NOT USE MEMORY TEST AT SPFT !
There has been confirmed cases that fellow xda member brick their MT6575/ 77 by using the MEMORY TEST function at SP Flash Tool !

When you put a check mark at NAND Flash Test or EMMC Test what it does is that it actually FORMAT it & this will brick your device !

For those who are having problem such as 3013 S_DA_SOC_CHECK_FAIL or 8038 SP FLASH TOOL ERROR for MT6575/ 77 even with testpoint, you will need SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1224.0.sn85
I have upload it to here for ease to fellow xda member, Credits to Master Shifu rua1...

Added on Jan 06, 2013 - DO NOT JUST FLASH ANY ROM WHEN YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE !
Well known brands like Lenovo, Zopo, ZTE & etc do provide FACTORY ROM at their webpage for download...

However, for those lesser known brand, its hard to say so you will have to hunt for it & do as the title says... :D

Its sad to see users are taking advantage of all these free infos & tool developed by Master Shifu... :( Recent check with Master Shifu & he told me he only get 3 donations from xda  Come on people...

Please understand the significant amount of time and effort required to understand how the MTK devices works, then developing a software, a new function, bug fixes, add new features, testing it & etc before releasing it as a free tool...

Master Shifu never demanded any payment for using his software & inline with the xda spirit to Gives Credit Where Credit is Due you should start hitting the DONATE button now... ;)

As i have mention in this thread before, when you have unbrick your MTK devices using these infos & tool by Master Shifu, it means you don't have to fork out another USD 200+ to get a new devices...

So how about spending Master Shifu breakfast, lunch or dinner that you have manage to save $$$ :D

Normally for most MT65xx, you can't access META mode, to access it on my Lenovo, i have to take out the battery, press & hold volume up(don't let go) & plugin USB cable & the Device Manager will pop-up MTK USB COM for few seconds then disappear...( As the youtube video above ) Only at this MTK USB COM, the factory ROM can be downloaded without PRELOADER, according to Master Shifu cybermaus, thats how they download factory ROM at the first place... :D

Typically when you have MTK USB COM show up at Device Manager meaning you have factory META mode then you should be able to download your factory ROM with it too... :D No need to dismantle up your phone & look for testpoints... Did you press the Download button at SP Flash Tool first then only plugin USB cable... Or maybe you should try pressing the Volume Up button too while plugging in USB cable... :fingers-crossed:

Did you try reinstall driver as per whitetigerdk trick...

What is the error message you got... If you can upload then you should be able to download with it too... :fingers-crossed:

    Good Luck... :D

now how to search for the replacement rom ?
what things should be matched ?
Hard to say. Best thing should be a ROM that you simply *know* is for your exact hardware. Someone who clearly has the identical phone, and vouches for a working ROM. Or from your vendor.

Failing that, I would look for:
    - same processor
    - same memory specs
    - same buttons and number of buttons
    - same sensors
    - same screen resolution
    - same display type (IPS vs LCD vs OLED)
    - same camera resolution
    - release to market at about the same time

    Not so critical is
    - screen size
    - battery size
    - physical size

And luck. You need luck. But as mentioned, you can invite luck by only flashing boot/system/cache/user when doing so, it means you can always go back.

I am still trying to see if it is worth trying to port the A750 for you, as it has all the above hardware the same. Can you for me also collect this info:

Start Droid tool. Choose ADB terminal. Type the following in the command window:
    Code:
    adb shell (enter)
    su (enter)
    ls /sys/devices/platform (enter)
    ls /sys/bus/i2c/drivers (enter)
    cat /proc/devices
I want to see if they are similar to my A750.

As to your IMEI and SIM: Since your phone is originally a single SIM phone with the second one hidden, I would expect an original ROM to only know about 1 SIM. Do you need dual SIM? Also, I think I would like to hande the IMEI problem only after you have a ROM. You probably just need to rebuild your NVRAM, so even if you have a correct ROM, it will not have IMEI. Lets handle the hardware first, the IMEI later.
    11
    @ashishp.grims
The only way to solve your problem is by finding the correct ROM...So you better hope for one good Samaritan that has the same device, help you to back it up & upload it for you... :fingers-crossed:

Use this tool here by Russian Grand Master rua1... :good: It is able to backup full factory ROM out of a working MT65xx...

As for the rest of the guys here...
There is no one to blame except yourself for not googling more info before you start modding this & that... :cowboy:

Many has pm me & i can't help b'cos i don't have your Factory ROM as simple as that...

My final advice to those that cannot find your Factory ROM is that you forget about the whole unbricking process here & get yourself a new device...

MT6589 are super cheap nowadays... Having said that, pls get a branded MTK device where you can get the Factory ROM from their web-page...

if you intent to stick to cheap MTK devices then make sure you backup your Factory ROM using Master Shifu rua1's MTK Droid Root & Tools the moment you got your device...

    Cheers...
