The critical point seems to be the dalvik wipe. Without I had to reboot all the time between rom and gapps flash, when I wipe dalvik after flashing gapps direvtly after flashig rom all is fine (besides missing car mode, I always restore it with tb)

Hmm, here's exactly what I did earlier:

- Restock to Gingerbread (overcome's guide with the pit, pda, and modem)
- Flash Overcome Kernel (latest) with Odin
- Transfer CM9 kernel/ROM and gapps to SD root
- Reboot to recovery
- Wipe data, caches, and voltage stats
- Flash rom/kernel, and then when it completes, flash gapps
- Wipe cache and dalvik (I think in this order; whichever one is displayed first is what I did first)
- Reboot to system

And still had no gapps shown. If I also wipe data after flashing rom/kernel and gapps, I don't get the setup wizard either.

I have to reboot out of ICS to recovery, flash gapps, wipe caches and data, and then I'm presented with the setup wizard and gapps are shown (if I don't do data, I don't get setup wizard, but instead Android optimizes apps, and when it's done, I can see gapps installed)

Did you miss to write down that you flashed gapps or didn't you do it?

I just found out that the problem that I have with wifi is in my whole country.
We're using Edge sim card here and that's why you don't have any problem with your wifi.
But for us, we can only use one of these, GSM or WIFI, we cannot use both at the same time.
I know it's not your problem, but I'd be greatful if you could just take a look at it. Not that I'm not greatful, I could never imagine having ICS on my tab and now thanks to you guys I have a 99% functional version of it on my tablet, I am greatful, I just thought that I ask one last time.

you mean this problem with GSM and WIFI exists only in ICS/CM9 not in GB?
And while on WIFI you can't make call either? (say you screw up the APN deliberately so you get no mobile data, then connect to WIFI, then make a call).

I've done some more experiments, and I'm pretty sure I can't boot my self-compiled ROM using the built-in boot.img, because my boot.img is faulty.

- The Tab doesn't boot if I just flash my self-compiled ROM (which includes my self-compiled boot.img).
- The Tab boots if I flash my self-compiled zImage as well as my self-compiled ROM.
- The Tab doesn't boot if I flash my self-compiled boot.img as well as my self-compiled ROM.
- My self-compiled boot.img is 6.8 MB.
- slim's 2/20 boot.img is 10 MB.
- The Tab boots if take my self-compiled ROM and replace my self-compiled 6.8 MB boot.img with slim's 10 MB boot.img (the same ROM except for boot.img, and no zImage flashed!).

It seems my ROM is fine, but my boot.img is faulty. But both are build by scripts/build.sh p1 eng! Are there special instruction for building boot.img? If so, can somebody please tell me how to build a valid 10 MB boot.img? If not, can somebody please tell me how to build a valid 10 MB boot.img?

Thanks!

+1 this, I have exactly the same issue, 6.8mb boot.img that doesn't.

Yeah, unfortunately it's on ICS/CM9. We don't have this problem on GB.
The problem is when we flash the rom, GSM works fine but wifi won't connect to our router, in fact it barely finds our router.
Now if we delete Phone.apk or remove sim card and then from recovery wipe data, wifi works the way it supposed to, but the moment we replace Phone.apk or put sim card back into the tab, after a reboot, the problem is back again.
First I thought it's just me but yesterday I was in a forum from my country, it's basically a copy-paste from xda, so usually I never go there but I thought maybe I find a solution. After reading the whole forum I found out that they're having the exact problem and they use the same solution just to use wifi.

Need some help from the community
Can u guys spare a minute to fill out this form?
http://goo.gl/QjuNm
It's ust the output of one command
This'll just let me know how much space of a certain partition (dbdata) is used so that we can adjust its size accordingly
(So that if it isnt used at all, we can just sacrifice some space from it for some other use)

And that swap idea isnt bad actually, can shrink system to ~200-250 mb, and then dbdata can be used too - but still it wont affect performance really

Dbdata is actually meant to store app data (/data/data ), as internal sd is much slower than OneNAND
but i've never noticed it being used , especially on non-Samsung ROMs, so why waste space ?

Or we can bind mount it to /data/data (and increase the size a bit - system can be ~200 mb), would bring much faster performance
(can move dalvik-cache too)

There is /preload partition too, last time I checked it was 500mb o_O

Its not on OneNAND anyway, its mmcblk0p3
I mounted it one day and found 3 apks (all trial games from Samsung Apps xD)

Also, the boot.img from master branch of device and android-samsung-2.6.35 doesnt boot atm, we're currently working on mtd and wi'll merge the changes into the main branches soon, so till then hold off and use a zImage (pretty much everyone knows how to)

And a 10mb boot.img wont work at any cost, bml7 is ~7mb, anything bigger just wont flash (ever imagined fitting the tyre of a monster truck to your normal sedan? :p)

Halo cdesai, can you explain what is the quad-core? Or provide keyword to search Google, thanks so much. WoW ram to 2GB, oh my God. It's such good news. You guys are great.

Yes sir, we now have 4 cores and 2GB of RAM

add these lines to BoardConfig.mk before compiling
BOARD_IS_QUAD_CORE=TRUE
BOARD_RAM_SIZE=2048

make clobber then make

Known Issues + Useful info :
USB Tethering won't work in windows (works in ubuntu, untested on OSX)
Internal sd is /mnt/sdcard, and external is /mnt/emmc
USB Host works with a Y cable as the tab doesn't supply power, doesn't with the standard Samsung Adapter for the new tabs.

    Official Nightlies : http://get.cm/
    p1 : http://get.cm/?device=p1 [GSM Tabs]
    p1c : http://get.cm/?device=p1c [CDMA Tabs]
    Modems :
    p1 [GSM] : http://goo.gl/EjHq5 (Flash via CWM)
    p1c [CDMA] : http://goo.gl/Dhmjl (Flash via Odin)

    READ THIS BEFORE FLASHING
^It's for the epic but it's pretty much the same thing except the ROM links, and the only ROMs having MTD now are CM9 based ROMs - no MTD on GB

Only way to revert to a normal ROM now is flashing a stock Samsung ROM by odin (with repartition checked)

How to Flash the above zips :

You need to restock your tab if you are running an old MTD build, (only if /system isn't 406 mb, check it by the command `df system` or use an app (such as root explorer) )
IF you are coming from a FSR (STL/BML) ROM (aka Samsung ROM - anything else than the latest CM9 builds / AOKP builds, i.e. any GB ROM, no need to restock)
IF you are coming from a froyo ROM, you need to flash a stock GB ROM first, follow the guide below :

    Restocking :
Follow the team overcome restock guide [http://www.teamovercome.net/p1000/?page_id=17], and completely restock your tab.
Once you've flashed it, reboot into download mode again and flash any kernel with recovery (any non-MTD kernels from humberos.com.br, or this forum, for your tab model)
After you've flashed the kernel, reboot into recovery, and this time, install the zip you just downloaded from CyanogenMod servers.
Install Google Apps if you want (gapps-ics-* from goo.im) [optional]
Reboot and enjoy your tab :)

    Normal install :
You need to have a kernel with CWM Recovery
Get the zip from the above download links
Put the zip on your sdcard, reboot into recovery, and install the zip
It'll reboot a few times during the install, that's normal :)

    Sources :

    CyanogenMod : https://github.com/CyanogenMod
SGT7 (based off CyanogenMod sources with a few tweaks of our own) https://github.com/sgt7

All device tress (p1, p1c and p1-common) and kernel tress (p1 and p1c) have been merged into the CyanogenMod tree now, if you want to submit a change/patch, use cm code-review [http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Gerrit]

How to get the sources :
    Setup Android Build Environment (http://source.android.com)
    Code:
    mkdir ~/cm9
    cd ~/cm9
    repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b ics
(Type in your name and email address when asked)
    Code:
    repo sync
(^^This'll take a while, as ~7GB of sources are downloaded initially)

    How to build :
    Code:
    source build/envsetup.sh
    cd device/samsung/p1 ; ./extract-files.sh
    brunch p1
Replace p1 with p1c for CDMA variants.
Building may take a long time depending on your machine, might range from a few minutes to many hours
After the build is done, navigate to ~/cm9/out/target/product/p1
The zip you'll be looking for would be update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-p1-UNOFFICIAL-signed.zip

If you want to build just the kernel, type the below commands
    Code:
    source build/envsetup.sh
    make out/target/product/p1/boot.img

If you want just the kernel - u'll get it in the same folder, boot.img
    Flash it with heimdall
heimdall flash --kernel ~/cm9/out/target/product/galaxytab/boot.img --recovery ~/cm9/out/target/product/galaxytab/boot.img

^^The above instructions were for building a clean CyanogenMod build for p1, without any changes we did to the sources (mainly frameworks and some apps)

IF you want to build that, sync from https://github.com/sgt7/android.git instead of CyanogenMod, and then build using the same commands
    38
    I got some news!

    https://plus.google.com/115013390614274076135/posts/CcmArQkDDXn

    Official builds coming soon!

But, till then, i suggest the kangers not to sync, as i'll be changing stuff upstream which might break the build(mainly vendor/samsung, device is now p1 and p1c)

So, dont repo sync until i give a heads up(or remove vendor/samsung from your manifest)

And, don't try to build p1 atm (uploading it in a while) - Can build the good old galaxytab fine, just don't try to build p1 or you'll be on your own (you'll know why soon)
