Best thing to do with any electronics that fell into water is :
1 - take out the battery (or any other power source)
2 - take out the cars (SD, SIM, ...)
3 - take it apart as much as possible without tools
4 - put it in a bowl of rice (dry rice), make sure the rice covers the electronic completely and leave it there at least a few hours (1 day would be probably best).
Also, you could use a plastic box that can be sealed (usually used for food storage).

I know many would think it's stupid to use rice, but it's very absorbent and it's something you can find easily around the house (or at least in the kitchen ;) ).

I had an old phone fall into water and put it in rice and the phone still works (after about 4 years after the accident), too bad i don't have a use for it anymore (it was a "dumb phone", you know, the "brick" type).

P.S. if after drying it with rice it's still not working, check if the battery/accumulator is good (it might have gotten "fried" when it fell in the water, the short-circuit can destroy completely a battery/accumulator), if the battery is good but the device still doesn't work, best thing is to take it to a repair center.

Motherboard Replacement

Than you so much for the information and for taking your time with the pictures. :good: ;)
I do have a question, where can I find a motherboard for replacement?
the part that connects the motherboard with the USB flex is broken, so the telephone company did not take it within the warranty.

You have any idea where can i find the motherboard for my p970? :fingers-crossed:

Can my motherboard be repaired?

Hi
I have a query. I dropped a drop of sauce on my LG Optimus P970. Unfortunately, the sauce dripped through the back camera and reached the motherboard. It was just one drop of sauce that fell :(
I took it to the LG Service Center guys, they said that the warranty has been void because of the damage due to liquid. My phone starts, hangs at times, gets really hot, discharges pretty quickly(in minutes), doesnt read memory card.

The Service Center people said that it cannot be repaired as the its a damage to the motherboard and I need to pay a huge amount to get it replaced from LG.

My Question is - Do they not repair the motherboard because of quality reasons, or it cannot be practically repaired?

They don't repair circuit boards since it cannot match the quality of a new board and it would break again easily.

You can try open the phone up and see if any residue sauce is still on the board that might cause a short somewhere. Other than that replacing the motherboard is the only option. If it's a "huge" amount then I suggest rather going for a new phone.

Look on ebay for new mother board if the suggestion given by xonar doesn't work.
I have seen few in the 30-40 euro area.
And than comes the calculation are you nifty enough to replace the motherboard or not. I changed the MB on my old phone and it is achievable. But now if it is going to be like two hours fidly work i might as well do something that pays me and look for a new phone.

From the CM10 thread, those who have SOD/Power Button issue.
You just blew my mind, I thought it was just the button that died, it also fixes the earpiece. Any way of fixing it, without having to press down on it?

Also, you saved me 30 bucks

Symptom: Recurring SOD, power button doesn't respond.
Solution: Pressing the back of the device near the camera then pressing power button.
Started: In the advent of ICS (beginning from KU5900 firmware)

This is your problem.

Opening the device, you will see several gray foam like on the underside of the back-plate for each small part. Might be wear and heat that these foam like doesn't put pressure anymore.
If this is soldered or snap on, it means it loses contact. That's why pressing the back of the device works.
What I did was open the device. On that specific part there are two things that presses it on the underside of the back plate. A gray foam like, and a black rubber like just above the gray one.

What I did was remove the black one, and put it on top of the gray one on its top edge. So the press is more effective. Screwed the back plate and assembled again. Waking the deice hereon never failed.

Dust

I have noticed some dust on ear speaker. Do I have to disassemble all those parts (motherboard, circuits, etc...) to reach the ear speaker?

Thank you in advance. :good:

I already done it. I had to replace my cracked glass. The worst part is that it's glued and has some hermetic parts. Be careful to not snatch the earpiece on the top while removing the glass because it is also glued :/
