First of all, thank you for this wonderfull widget.

After some fiddling I've found a workaround to get your google reader feeds in this widget. In short this workaround is to add a rss feed of a folder in google reader.

1. Open google reader in Firefox (maybe other browsers may work as well, but then step7 may be different)
2. Click Settings-> Reader settings on the top of the screen
3. Click on the tab Folders and Tags
4. You'll see your reader folders there (if you don't see any folders you need to create at least one and put your subscriptions in there, or perhaps you could use the starred items, but I didn't test that).
5. Behind every folder there is a rss icon and private or public state. The folder needs to be public (click on the rss icon the change the state)
6. You can then click on View public page
7. The new page opened contains a rss symbol in the addressbar (in firefox). Click on this. You can copy the url from the addressbar and add it to the newsscroller widget feeds.
NOTICE!: the atom feed link on this page didn't work for me, so that is why I used the rss icon from the addressbar

You can repeat the steps 5 to 7 for every folder of subscriptions you want to have in newsscroller widget.

One of my folder feeds is this (several rss feeds from dutch f1 sites)
http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/16201094358484797417/label/F1

I've been using the same method to get feeds from several sources. The only difference is that the atom link does work for me. Regardless, the URL of the feed is always the same as in the example above (but with your own user ID and labels, obviously).

As far as i can tell, the only downside is that the feeds read this way often contain duplicate entries. E.g. when news items are listed both on the "front page" and "tech" news feeds from a paper, there is just one item in the Google reader and the atom feed, but somehow four items show up in the widget.

Example: http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/06393018852016308686/label/NRC (Sorry for this being Dutch. I'm not fluent enough in French to read French newspapers without inviting major headaches)

This is a great widget, thank you!

Any chance of configuring the tap action to start a certain application instead of a browser?

Uh, for some reason it stopped showing updates. All of the updates that came after the new year haven't shown up... but they show up in other apps/widgets

Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App

On Droid Incredible.

It says on the widget that I need LP or ADW. I am running LPP and it will not show any news. I added new york times and wall street journal, and tested the feeds, but it will not show any news. Any ideas?

EDIt: Seems like this widget doesn't work with CM 6.1 stable. I tried atomaRSS, and that doesn't work either. Oh well.

Installed from market. I have a Backflip (stock rom 2.1 update 1, rooted). The widget does not show up on my screen. I can select the settings when I first select the widget to add it to my screen but it never shows up there. Not sure if it's still running in the background or not..

You should say in the instructions that for LP, you need to enabled scrollable widgets in the preferences. It took me a while to figure out why it did was working. It'll help noobs like me.

I got mine working again by adding a few feeds to the widget, refreshing, and removing the feeds I had added

Any ETA on future version?
There are two small annoyances I have with the widget:
* Please make an option - Tap Header to Update. Instead of having to tap the refresh icon in the corner, which is very small and could get even smaller for users of LCDensity and such, make possible to tap header to update the news.

* LauncherPro widgets have a feature that's unique - longpress to move/delete widget doesn't work on the whole widget surface but only where the author wants it. This is great because if you press, hold your finger on some news wondering whether to read more or slide up or down, you will suddenly enter edit widget mode. This is annoying as it happens for me many, many times. Please allow an option or change default behavior that only longpress on footer or header of the widget will edit the widget, but not long-press on the news content of the widget.

I love the look of this app and reuters works fine but after trying about 10 different feeds none of them work. I'm starting to think that I'm doing something wrong?

Do all feeds need to have .xml at the end?

Two things: One Suggestion and one question.

The Suggestion: I see a lot of people with problems adding a new rss feed. I wanted to use Google News but news.google.com wasn't working. After some digging I found a list of all their rss feeds. I Googled "google news feeds" and it was the first result for me. (can't post links yet ;p)

The Question: @gdodinet, please forgive me if this has been asked already but would it be possible to add an option to hide the header? It would give the widget a really clean look that I'd really appreciate. I know it would eliminate the ability to edit the settings after the widget is placed on the homescreen but I think I may be worth it to some people (unless you have a clever way to still allow accessing the settings with no header).

Thanks a ton for an awesome Widget!!!

[2014.01] This app has been revived thanks to rori~! Please find the latest version here.

    History

    ---

    Last edit 2012-11-04: version 2.1.2.

ICS compatible [see history below]. Min compatibility: Android 3.1 (api level 12).

Source is available on google code under a GPL 3 license: http://code.google.com/p/scrollable-news-widget/source/checkout

Eclair, Froyo Gingerbread (and Honeycomb 3.0) users: please use v1.4.4.1.

Previous versions are available form google code : http://code.google.com/p/scrollable-news-widget/downloads/list

    ---

I've published yesterday [23 nov. 2010] the first version of a scrollable news widget. This is my first attempt at android development.

I've tested the widget against Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher quickly and quite extensively with Zeam. It still needs some work (amonst other things: theming, feed validation, feed lookup, ...) but it is still usable -- meaning i use it.

Since version 1.4.0 GReader and news sharing are supported through Scrollable News Addons (paid app).
The addon has been unpublished as it won't be maintained anymore. Its features will in time be integrated into the main app.

So true ... the "Scrollable news widget" is so much more neater, simpler and nicer. Feels so nice to use it and read news on this widget.

Really, wish one of the experts out here could take on this and revive it!

    1.3

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about scrollable widget API and LP. As it turned out, i finally decided to continue supporting LP. So i rollbacked my changes and downgraded back to scrollable api v1.

Version 1.3 has been published a bit earlier today (recent changes are listed in the first post) and is still compatible with LP. It includes some suggested improvements and a few minor fixes (most of them i had to blind code because i cannot reproduce them) .

How can I get this to get feeds from google reader?

Use greader from a pc first. And make the feeds public. Watch ur public site and click atom link on the right. Copy That link.

True but I really think better feed discovery is required. It's the only reason I don't use this widget (and I really want to!). It is just painful to set up your feeds because sure-as-gravity I don't remember each of the URLs.

Keyword search and find is required really... a search for "gizmodo" for example should return the appropriate feed IMHO.

As stated here, this will be part of 1.4. 1.4 should also add some sort of news sharing feature (i'm working on it these days).
