How do you enable sideloading of apks on your AT&T phone?

This link explains it all...
How to enable sideloading on rooted AT&T phones - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com
____________________________________________________

For app conflict resolution.
Wipe cache partition
Wipe Dalvik cache
Fix Permissions

If that doesn't do it,

Use titanium backup.
Batch backup all your user apps.
Wipe data and factory reset your current rom.
Verify the problem exists before re installing your personal apps (don't use the market app untill the end of this process).
If the problem exists, I would sbf back to stock and start over from scatch.
If the problem goes away, start restoring your user apps/data one at a time in titanium backup to try to replicate the problem. It could be just one or more apps conflicting with each other.
If you can identify which app(s) are causing the problem, uninstall the app(s) and download them again from the market (or other source) to install them fresh.

This may solve your problem. If not, then either try using other apps or doing without the problem apps (assuming you can identify the offending apps).

After this go ahead and enter the market app for your other/paid apps

As always, every device is different (even the same model, running the same rom, with the same apps installed) and sometimes there are unusual problems for individual phones.

Question posed by ME :)
I have been seeing this on multiple threads so I want a clarification. Please.

Cm7 comes with cm recovery baked in (froyo & gb?). Rom Manager won't work with out flashing cwr. For that flash droidx 2nd init.

1) If you are not going to use rom manager, do you need to flash this?

2) bootstrap recovery conflicts with cm7 and MIUI. How do you get to cwr if everything fracks up? When you bootstrap you can get to cwr by doing battery pulls.

Answer from bikedude880 @ rootzwiki
It is highly recommended to install cwm via Rom Manager as CM7 /removes/ bootstrap entirely on install. Newer version can restore older, but not the other way around. Battery pulls are still applicable.

Question posed by ME:)
I have a couple questions.
#1 can I flash a nandroid of a different device to recover this one if things go wrong?

#2 when updating the cm7gb revnumbers kang, do we have to factory reset and wipe data/cache?

#3 can you reflash on top of the current rom to reset the system software/settings etc. (To get rid of scripts and mods and be fresh) without factory reset and wipe data/cache? So as not to loose apps and settings etc...

Answer from kr3n @ rootzwiki
#1 As long as the nandroid is from a d2g and has the same kernel

#2 No

#3 It will get rid of mods and scripts but I think settings are stored in data

Question posed by ME:)
Is there a way to see which CM4D2G (CM7) nightly you currently have installed?

Answered by x13thangelx @ rootzwiki
Yes, look at the latest zip you have on your sd card

otherwise, no.

Question posed by : vlambrecht on xda

This is regarding the new .608 gb sbf
So, I can flash that over my current install of Foryo + root + Clockwork?

Also, what about the unlocked status of the phone?
I have no idea how it is unlocked. Is there any way I can tell if the phone has been truly unlocked?

Answered by : sd_shadow On xda
Yes you can flash it with what ever you have or don't have
You will have to reroot after with petes root tools
Once unlocked the phone is always unlocked can't be locked again
Sbfs and roms don't touch that part of phone

Question asked by an overseas android owner:

How do I recover my D2G I bought from someone in the USA and shipped to (insert your country)

This posed the next question.

Is the USA VZW SBF the one you flash for an overseas phone?

Answered by Gasai Yuno in Rootzwiki Forums:

There are no non-US D2Gs. Use the stock 4.5.608 (or 4.5.629 if it was somehow updated to 4.5.629).

Either try ezSBF or RSDLite the proper official 4.5.608
(the MD5 sum for it is 2152ee89e314f5b282753ee56fa36c07).

Naturally, on CM7, the device cannot be unlocked.

most stable rom?

This is a great collection, thanks for the legwork.

Noob Question, if I may: I'm currently on Hexen/Froyo and wanting to upgrade to GB. Is there a general opinion on the question of "Most Stable GB Rom", currently? Or some sort of high-level pros/cons discussion? Searching the forums doesn't really yield good results - mostly it's people with problems, or folks who don't know how to sbf. I'm basically interested in finding out which one crashes the least, or conversely, the one that "you just like, even w/ the occasional reboot".

I reckon the following are on the table: Apex, Liberty, MIUI, & CM7; not sure if either Venus, or the VZ stock GB are even worth considering...? (What's the skinny on Venus? I read it's garbage/banned, and then I read elsewhere that it's just fine... big wtf there.)

Thanks in advance; long time reader, 1st-time poster. Have a good one out there.

Stock Gingerbread is very stable. Unlike stock Froyo, it's not as slow as well; the Gingerbread version of Blur is a lesser resource hog.

Stock 2.3 will also give you the best battery life so far, according to my research. (I get up to 36 hours on a single charge with GPS and WiFi on 24/7.) Just root it, and freeze some bloatware. You can also use a 3rd party launcher instead of the stock Blur one.

Random reboots happen with the stock ROM, however not quite often. For example, my phone usually reboots itself after 400-450 hours of uptime.

MIUI and CM7 are only stable for CDMA users. On GSM, there are numerous issues with WiFi and mobile data.

I honestly only have experience with Hexen(froyo) which was great and CM4D2G-GB (CM7).

CM7 has lots of great features but imo is not quite as polished as hexen yet. Stable for the most part on cdma but some users complain of bluetooth issues(think its the bt devices not the phone or rom. There are sooooo many different kinds out there it is hard to build for all.) Also remember we are still in nightlies for cm7-GB. It will get better...

Still both are better than blurstock.

Follow the links I provided if you want a more in depth look at the roms...

Ran through 'em all quickly

So just a quick report - I decided to get really friendly with RSD Lite today. Overall results:
- no CM7 (what's this 2nd-init business? Maybe I missed something here)
- Apex installed fine
- Liberty installed fine
- MIUI looks kinda freaking AWESOME, but it wouldn't reboot for me, after I'd tried to install Droid 2 Bootstrapper.

I performed the following sequence many times, except when switching from Apex to Liberty, that was the only rom switch that went gracefully. All others required:
- SBF to Froyo .330
- apply upgrade.zip (.607)
- Rooted w/Droid 3 one-click
- Installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper
- - Bootstrapped recovery
- - Rebooted recovery
- Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik
- install rom from zip.

Let me know if you think I missed something in that process, w/r/t CM7 or MIUI. Tired of flashing though, probably just gonna settle on a coin-toss between Apex & Liberty.

One more step. After all that and maybee after you get your base of personal apps going, fix permissions.

I am not sure if it makes a difference if you do it in recovery or through rom manager(or another app).
_______________________________________________________________________

Once you flash cm7-GB you no longer should use bootstrap recovery. There is a conflict of some kind. Get around this by installing ROM Manager and flashing ClockworkMod Recovery (droid X 2nd init). After that you are good to go. I have had no problems. If you want more info on this, follow the link to the cm7-gb thread and read, read, read.... it is in there or the dev thread (which is linked to in the OP of the users thread)

You must not install Droid 2 Bootstrap on MIUI. MIUI includes CWM. CM7 also includes CWM.

And CM7 installs like every other ROM.

Not sure why would you flash the SBF image every time. You only need to flash it in case you are unable to enter CWM.

that was the case, i was unable to get into CWR at all. For example with CM7, I did all that, rebooted, and it just hung at the red "M" logo, and I could only get back into the "Android Recovery <e3>" area. i tried a few different ways of re-installing the O.G. gingerbread update.zip (.607) file, but nothing would work, so I just wound up SBF'ing then running update.zip, then re-rooting, then re-installi.... you get the point.

But again, this is only the 3rd rom I've ever tried, and the first 2 were on Froyo and both ran perfectly fine. Thanks for the tip on not installing Droid 2 Bootstrap onto MIUI... hah, "duh" says me. :)

On ICS MIUI, press Volume Down when you see the LED light up (blue) while the red Motorola logo is still displayed.

This will take you to the boot menu, and from there you can access CWM.

Hi Gasai,
I am also a GSM user... but I suffer from terrible battery life possibly because of the number of apps I have installed. Do you have very few apps installed ?
Also I understand that our only real option is stock blur minus bloat . Or is there anything else ?

I run stock because it's the most stable 2.3 ROM I know as of this moment. Neither MIUI nor CM7 developers care about GSM anyway.

Battery life varies for me from 18 to 32 hours, but I rarely use my phone for more than 1-2 hours a day.

Love This Thread!

But Quick Question, I Rooted My Phone This Morning & All I Have Is SuperUser. Anything Else Was Supposed To PopUp Or No?

no that's it
but now you can use titanium backup, screenshot, edit system files with a file viewer/ explorer(root exlporer), and install roms

edit: superuser is your root control if you want a program to have administrative access you allow/deny that with superuser
