Hello XDA!

I'm thinking on buying a laptop with main porpouse to edit videos in Premiere CC and After Effects CC. The Raw videos I intend to edit are from my DSLR camera Canon 600D (1080P 50FPS). As right now, I have Asus K52Jc (i5, 4gb of ram and nvidia 310m) and I am able to edit Full HD videos, but it's kinda pain in a a**. The maximum I can spend as right now is 1000€ and I don't want to buy Desktop.

I'm here to ask you guys if you can explain me what does video editing consume at most. And the most, how important is GPU for Premiere / After Effects? Is nVidia Geforce GT740m 2GB DDR3 good for editing FULL HD videos?

P.S. I know you will telling me to buy TOP GPU cards, but I don't really have much money to spend.

Basically any of the core i5s will work.
But even with haswell the graphics are exceptionally weak.

At least get a haswell i5 an ssd(Very beneficial) and have 4gb of ram and usb 3.0.
Look for laptops with an exotic graphics config like an nvidia gpu on the motherboard.

It's hard to find a good laptop for this vs building a desktop pc.

Hope it works out for you.

Hello there,

Basically I have DSLR Camera (Canon 600D) which I use to film in Full HD (1080P 50fps) for my movies (short plays and medium plays).
So, I am thinking to buy a laptop with main porpouse to edit my videos in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6 and I would like to ask you guys if you can help me choose one. Maximum I could spend is 1000€.

So, I don't care how much time my laptop will take to export movies, but what is most important to me is smooth editing ( fast pre-rendering). I know that pre-render / in software render uses Nvidia CUDA cores to acelerate the process.

I choosed these two laptops:

ASUS K750JB:
Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
12GB RAM 1600mHz
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores <<< ---- can this one do the job done?
1TB 5400RPM <<<--- I am thinking on buying 60GB SSD extra for OS and Adobe Programs
17.2'' Screen 1600x900

Price: 799€

HP Envy 15-j011sp:

Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
8GB RAM 1600mHz <<<---- I could buy 4GB extra
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores
1TB 5400RPM <---- I could buy 60GB SSD extra
15.6'' Screen 1920x1080

Price: 810€

So, as you saw, Two of these laptops have 740M Graphic card. Asus is parcially alluminun, but HP is totally alluminum.
Do you think these two are good for edit videos from my DSLR camera? As I said, I don't care how much time it takes to render movie. What is most important to me is editing smooth experience.

Thank you!

From my experience definitely get the asus laptop with an ssd. (Much higher quality build)
You could also use an external screen like your tv as long it is 1920x1080. (The asus laptop is not 1080p)
If ^this is an issue then look for a model of asus that has an internal 1080p screen.

The Hp laptops I found to be extremely horribly cooled.

Also try to get an ssd with mlc nand so it asts longer.
