Re: [ROM][AOSP][LINARO] CarbonRom 1.1 JB 4.2.2 [l900] » Feb 15

Still having a pretty major memory leak. After rubbing for a day if I clear everything out of memory I will only have 200mb or so free

Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk HD

You keep bringing up this memory leak and I think this scares people from trying this rom. I have have had no memory leak on this rom neither with the first version nor this version. It could be a specific app that your running that is causing the leak. Rom is running fantastic besides the fact that NFC does not seem to turn on. The other guys that previously posted seem to be scaring people with the whole SD card issue which is really a non issue if you know what your doing. The ROM is great and can easily be a daily driver for many of you. It is for me. Thanks for bringing this to us. Much appreciated.

Not trying to scare anyone. I'm still using the ROM for now, but I feel the need to bring it up and haven't had any responses. Same thing happened to myself and others with the other custom kernel out there. Doesn't happen in any other ROM with the stock kernel, so I doubt it's an app. The SD card issue is an easy fix for those that read. I'm just trying to find a solution or a way to determine the cause to help out the devs. Love the ROM, but being out of memory at the end of the day is getting tiresome, especially without any attention being paid to the problem. When I get a minute in going to look for the stock kernel to flash over the custom one to get rid of the issue

Also in the Basic Kernel thread OP states there is a memory leak for some because if something in the build. Just trying to keep it in the forefront so hopefully it gets fixed

we were not trying to "scare" anyone, i cant speak for the other member but i am new to this phone. i flashed and just had to figure out how the file system works. i do read, but i havent had the chance to run through all the aosp threads yet. it wasnt like that on my previous phone so i got confused for a moment.

dont be scared ppl. this rom is dope.

like i said, i did my research and figured out what my problem was . and if someone ran into what was going on in my situation, or if they got confused for a moment (were only human) i believe it could possibly help them if it happened to them.
the rom is running good, i just needed some assistance from someone who has been on this phone longer than me. (thanks for speaking up and helping me Avatar) thats what the forums are for. ppl to help each other.
Edit: I would also like to add that I've not seen the mem leak running the ROM all night and today. Pic attached. http://www.imgur.com/qPmOuCx.png

Loving this ROM. Facing just one problem though -- Settings keep crashing if I try to enter the option for defining my own Access Point Names under Mobile Networks.

Screenshot_2013-02-17-02-05-40.png

Can anyone help fix this? Or at least provide a workaround that would let me set custom APNs through some other method?

Thanks in advance. :)

I think its because of the way you have your phone setup hybrid or tablet cause mine works fine when trying to enter an APN

This Guy right here knows what he is doing. Before even asking a question about a problem he encountered he tries every possible way to fix it himself instead of asking right away. That's how its supposed to be.

I'm confused. You show storage here, not memory. Clearing running apps does not recover memory for me. It just disappears and the phone gets extremely slow without a reboot. Usually takes about 24 hours or so. Has to do with the custom kernel

Thanks. I just restarted, but I'll take some and post them tomorrow just so people don't think I'm trying to cause trouble. It is a known issue with something in the custom kernels, but only affects some people apparently. I would just like to see some info on whether or not it's actually being worked on or if I should just go back to the stock kernel

Yes sir. Had the same problem with the last build with the included Basic Kernel and the same problem with CM with Basic Kernel. It is something with the kernel. It's explained in the OP in the Basic Kernel thread. I'm assuming the new Carbon kernel uses the same thing that causes it

Some of you guys seem a little paranoid. I in no way stated that anyone was INTENTIONALLY trying to share anyone! Again, I have no memory leaks and a simple read will help with the sd card. My point was that this room is awesome with very few problems. There was a guy on the last page that said he was going to stay away from AOSP rooms because some of this talk was freaking him out. I didn't quote him but I will. Don't be so paranoid everyone. It's all good!

Sounds like a major headache. . I think I will pass on AOSP for a while. Thanks for the info

Here is the quote from the guy that got spooked. Can't imagine how many others get spooked that we don't know about. Just want the new guys to know that this is not scary stuff. Google is your best friend on here. I find that just doing a search through Google with xda in the search query will give me better results than searching straight though the xda forum.

What are you using to clear out memory? I'm using system tuner, but I was wondering if there was a method built into the ROM

I just clear the apps by holding the home button and pushing clear on the top right.

Okay, just wondering if there was a method I method I didn't know about. I use system panel and the way you described. I'll post a pic from system panel later on when memory gets low again.

I restart my phone every morning. ^ Rom is working sweet. Battery life seems better with this Rom and the MA7 modem.

I used to do this too, and have had to with all the custom kernels so far because of the memory leak. Haven't had to restart as often with the stock kernel

    About Carbon

CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.

Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.

We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.

Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.

While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

    Features
Simply stated, we can't really list features here. There are too many and they change too frequently, and we now support a truly insane number of devices. Chances are, if you like a feature, we have it already. Seriously.

    Carbon Updates

Join us on these Social Media Channels to keep yourself up-to-date on all the latest Carbon news, updates, contests, and more! Join our completely open Google+ community for insider conversation with devs and other users.

    Download Carbon

All Carbon downloads and further information such as features, changelog, and FAQ can be found on our goo.im page.

Both nightly and release builds are available. Please note that nightlies are for development purposes. This means that they may not work properly, may not flash, may not build for days at a time, and will probably eat your cat. If you flash these, know what you're doing, have backups, and don't complain when something happens. It's on you!

    Changelog

For a detailed changelog, check out the changes made each night here:

    Change Log

You can also find a changelog in Settings->Carbon->About Carbon

    Support

We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:

    1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.

    2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!

    3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.

    4) Join our G+ Community: http://community.carbon-rom.com This is where we spend the bulk of our time and the best way to reach us and other community members. We update and frequent this community far more than XDA, simply due to time constraints and the convenience of G+.

    5) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

    Who is Team Carbon?

Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

There is a reason why GPS and MMS work for some and not others. There has to be a concrete reason. I personally wish that instead of churning out nightly after nightly the devs investigate why so many people are having these two issues.

Oh wait, I forgot, the majority of users don't have these issues.

Anyway, Rooster I'm curious as to how your MMS started working out of the blue. Try to figure out what it is you did that triggered MMS to work. There has to be an actual reason... it wasn't magic.
Honestly, I'm kinda get tired of you complaining in every single AOSP ROM thread about GPS/MMS not working when it does work fine for the vast majority of users. Yes I understand why you're upset/frustrated but remember XDA is a site for developers first. They are not here to cater everyone and every single user complaint. It also does not help your cause that I have not seen a single logcat from you. Either help solve the issue or stop complaining. Sorry, not sorry. Just my 2 cents.

Updated 4.2.2 builds posted just now. We had some linaro build issues yesterday and some stuff got built with the google compiler. Today's build is full linaro and contains the new Carbon kernel by morfic and kejar.

4.4 test build http://d-h.st/pOK Use your 4.4 gapps of choice. Same device specific bugs in sbrissens CM11 or my own PA 4.4 builds are present here also. On initial flash, setup wizard will try and activate your mobile data. Ignore and skip through, your data is actually fine. Enjoy! A new thread will come soon enough :)
