I'm definitely doing that. Should be getting my Nexus 9 either today or tomorrow by Amazon. I bought it just for Android N. Have you contacted HTC yet?
You're still awake! It's 10 am here in UK
I did try to flash individually each file but with no success.. I will try again when I have more timeNo, just wipe everything except internal. You have to extract the last image.sksmsksjssksm whatever zip. Then just fastboot flash each file individually.

The safest way is unlocking your bootloader and enabling USB debegging as a back up plan incase something goes wrong

I got Android N through the Beta Program and OTA Update - everything went smoothly. But now I can't shut down my Nexus 9. Whenever I try, it starts again.
Will I be able to recover if the Android N preview fails on my Nexus 9 by unlocking the bootloader and enabling USB debugging beforehand then install Android N preview?
well Google did release the source for it but... they goofed on it
Check it out https://github.com/USBhost/FIRE-ICE/tree/android-tegra-flounder-3.10-n-preview-1
BTW my kernel works on the N preview
You were right, it's working with a newer version of fastboot, thanksMake sure you're updated to the latest version of fastboot - the error you're getting looks like the one when your version is too old.
Root is now available for N - I've flashed it and it's working perfectly. See this post here:

I agree 100%. This N build has transformed my Nexus 9.NPC56X running very well for me. In fact, I have had no issues at all. Daily driver on my N9. I'm very impressed that an early beta is this good.
Will the Nexus 9 get Android N now that Google have dropped the device?
