Might be time to EOL this again. Maybe even for good?

I'm now seeing a "Never" option to the dialog in Maps 9.8.1 (along with the latest Play services):

Thanks, Maps team.

on a rooted, customized android 4.4.2, this isn't working. i have xposed 2.6.1, nomap tips 2.2-31c370b (activated), google maps 9.9.0, and play services 7.5.71 (1955121-038). when i go into maps, i see this:

View attachment 3331757

and when i enable GPS, i get this:

View attachment 3331758

  1. what am i doing wrong?
  2. is this mod designed to stop the second attachment's prompt?

1) I can only replicate that specific dialog when I tap Location accuracy tips. I get a dialog with a "never" option (so it never appears again) when I tap the locate button or use the Maps app normally.

2) No, NoMapTips modifies only Google Maps.

Kevin, from the screenshot you posted it looks like you're on lollipop. Perhaps that's why you have the never option. I'm on kitkat and I do not have never as an option. I have maps 9.9 with the latest play services and nomaptips installed and active.

Update:

I flashed lollipop and installed maps 9.9 just to see if I could see the never option but alas no. So Kevin, I have no idea how or why you can see it and some of us can't.

What is the dialog saying, specifically for you? I get the "never" option when Google is suggesting WiFi alone. If I have location services off completely, for instance, and I tap the location button I do not get a "never" option. And perhaps rightfully so.

Is this currently working with maps 9.16.2? I'm using Android 4.4

Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

Is there a known issue with custom ROM's based on Android 5.1.1? I have a OnePlus One on Cyanogen OS and this module does nothing to prevent the Maps window.

Is this still happening for people on Lollipop and above? On the rare occasion I see this dialog it is always accompanied by a "Never" option that works well.

Since the latest versions of Maps, this mod is not needed anymore.

What maps version you use ? I use latest from play which shows 9.22.1 at least on my device

Even after once allowed it, then turned scanning off, it immediately popped up again while pressing my location

edit: I would like to think that there are some config files to be accessed while rooted so I could get rid of this notification, but after hours and hours hugging goggle I found nothing ! It seems that this kind of battery&/privacy monster doesnt bother people so much.

Odd. It appears they've "unfixed" it somewhat. I don't always get the dialog with WiFi off but sometimes I do. Usually it's on the second time I tap the location button. But sometimes it's on the first. And when it does pop up there is no longer a "Never" option. By contrast if you go into Google Hangouts and attempt to share your location you'll get the pop up but there is a never option. It doesn't even work like you'd expect though. :(

I've submitted a report about the never option disappearing in the Maps "send feedback" page. Hopefully if others do this too we'll get some action on it.

This happened to me as well, I installed 9.22.1 and the pop up started again, so I uninstalled 9.22.1 & installed 9.22.0 (from APKmirror) which removed the repeating pop up. Then Maps updated again to 9.22.1 through Play Store, but the repeating pop up did not comeback. The only thing I'd say made an effect, is when I uninstalled 9.22.1 it effectively cleared all data for Maps, so try to clear data for Maps first & see if the repeating Pop up is fixed.

Note: I am now using Maps 9.22.1 (#922100224), HTC m9 on Lollipop & the pop up came only on the 1st time. After selecting "Never" it never comes up again even after closing & re-opening Maps.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I have Maps 9.23.0 and I was so annoyed that this module didn't worm to get rid of that pop up every damn time. Even when only minimizing for a short period to change music.

I cleared cache, but that didn't remove the problem. Then I cleared all data and after going through the initial setup, IT WORKED! I do T get the pop up anymore. I don't know if it's the module that's doing it or if it would work without the module, but I don't want to take the risk of having that annoyance again only to find out. Thanks again.

Great to see that somehow fixes it. I highly doubt the latest version of the module is doing anything since it's very version-dependent. That is to say newer versions of Maps will break old versions of NoMapTips.

For me it is working without the module.

I get this exact thing with the same version. Would love so much to have a workaround....

NoMapTips has been marked end of life. While it remains available, the module has served its purpose and is no longer being updated. Google has added equivalent functionality built directly into Maps. Happy navigating! Another workaround.

    Introduction
The location accuracy tips dialog in Google Maps is annoying. You know what you're doing. Ignore that thing. Once and for all.

    Featured on XDA Xposed Tuesday!

    Images

    Features
    • You'll never see that horrible thing again. Even if your GPS is off.
    • You'll forget you installed it.
    • Theoretically less likely to crash your car...

    Installation
    1. Make certain you're on a supported version of Google Maps.
    2. Install the module by a) searching for it in the Xposed Installer or b) manually through the APK provided on GitHub or the Xposed website.
    3. Enable the module in the Xposed Installer.
    4. Reboot.
    5. Give it a spin! A very easy way to make this dialog appear is to turn off all location services and disable WiFi. Then tap the location accuracy tips preference in the Settings. No dialog? Good.

    FAQ
Q: NoMapTips isn't working for me. What can I do?
A: Oh dear. If you're familiar with GitHub, creating a new issue is a great option. If not, posting right in this thread isn't a bad idea either. The more information you include in your bug report the easier (and faster) it will be for me or someone else to help. What kind of info? Your Xposed log (found in the Xposed Installer), your version of Google Maps, your version of NoMapTips and your version of Android is often enough to get started. Please be kind and courteous to anyone offering assistance.

Q: How about a new feature?
A: NoMapTips is great, if I do say so myself, which I do, because it does one particular thing and does it very well with zero unnecessary overhead. Unless the feature request is "hide some more map tips" I'd have to say no.

NoMapTips is back, ladies and gentlemen. As of Google Maps 9.5.1 there is an incredibly annoying "tip" whenever you tap the compass / "locate me" button that looks something like this:
    NewTipsDialog.png

If you tap cancel so it will not change your location settings you will be refused the functionality you requested. This is even worse than before! This dialog could be other places but I have not checked. Google Maps wants to force you to turn on WiFi even when it's off.

Please note that there is still a (different) dialog if you do not have your location settings set to "High accuracy" or "Device only." I have chosen not to remove this dialog for now because Maps is pretty much useless if you do not have either of those options set. Especially navigation. In fact, generally speaking, you probably do want one of those two location settings activated while using Maps. The dialog I disabled is for WiFi and interferes with otherwise unhindered usages of the application.

The above is no longer true as of v2.1. :)

After installing NoMapTips, tap the Location accuracy tips option in the settings. You'll be greeted by this lovely little message assuming you have normal location services on:
    AlreadyOpt.png

    Enjoy!

I had no idea this was so highly requested. I never spent any time in /r/xposed until today. The notification just really started to piss me off. :p Good to see others find it useful.

Yep, it looks like the Maps team at Google heard us. One way or another. Thanks, everyone!
