[Q] Samsung Clone Galaxy S4(i9500) MT6572 / MT6589 Root, Rom & Internal Storage Help

Hi,

I have spent a great deal of time researching before posting this.
I have previously managed to flash and install a custom rom on other Android handsets but I am not sure with this handset as the information around may not be correct for me.

The S4 Clone was purchased from Thailand recently.
I noticed afterwards that I was unable to install apps as internal storage has around 300mb available in total under Apps however under storage available space is 9.41GB!

This is my main concern which I would like to resolve.
Mobile presently does not have any SD card.
I have installed the drivers for it on my PC so I can access it and view it as a camera and media player.

I would like to resolve the internal storage issue.
Or alternatively Root and resolve a new rom which fixes the problem.

MtkDroidTools has been installed on my PC but when attempting to root an error appears:

sh: /system/xbin/busybox: no found
cp: /system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Error: SU inaccessible

SuperSU does not work for me - no SU binary, likewise for Superuser.

Also the following phone info:

Hardware : MT6572 (MT6589 is Fake!)
Model : GT-I9500
Build number : ALPS.JB3.MP.V1.8
Build date UTC : 20131011-104628
Android v : 4.2.2
Baseband v: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V4, 2013/08/07 10:44
Kernel v : 3.4.5 (whl@server2) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Fri Oct 11 18:44:10 CST 2013

If I try to go into recovery mode it appears in a different language.
I am unable to install anything to the root of SD as I can only view the phone memory and presently I do not have a micro SD card - although I can get one if required.

People have mentioned scatter files, flashing etc, but I have no idea and I do not want to brick the phone.

I found a number of guides:
http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=38337401&postcount=5

Looks useful but unsure if I have the rom file, I downloaded it from here:
http://forum.gsm-india.com/vbb/f39/samsung-clone-galaxy-s4-i9500-mt6572-tested-rom-here-3036/

None of the files have rom specified in their name?

Can someone please provide some very basic instructions on how I can progress with this, ideally with backup in place just in case? :)

Thanks in advance

Merry Christmas and thanks for your response.

It was nice to receive a response from someone!

I tried your suggestion and I can now access recovery! :)

What would you suggest I do now?

Insert a sdcard and backup user data?
Wipe cache
Wipe data/factory reset
Then apply a rom update via an sdcard?

Should I be concerned that I cannot install SU due to not having enough space for SU binary?

Any advise on which rom?

Thanks

Hi,

I followed the suggested steps, deleted cache, data from recovery.
Rebooted.
Transfered Framaroot files.
Installed Framaroot

Selected
Install SuperSU

Eploit Boromir

Exploit result

Failed :( ... Exploit work but installed of Superuser and su binary have failed

Above was Framaroot 1.8.1

Also tried with 1.4.1

which states:
Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot

I also tried impactor again and it shows the error no space left on device message again.

I also tried MTK Droid and got the same error as previously mentioned -

sh: /system/xbin/busybox: no found
cp: /system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Error: SU inaccessible

Only thing I have not tried is the guide here: http://xdaforums.com/show...01&postcount=5

I could try this if it is worthwhile to try?
but I would require some further help or more basic instructions?
I can create a scatter file but then struggle a little on step 2 and the read back tab step?

Alteratnatively does anyone have any other suggestions please, as I am really strugglying with this?

If I cannot increase the phone storage space issue then using this handset will become a problem even with an SD card.
I installed all the essentials apps required and despite it being set to SD card, I am now left with 50mb according to what it states within app.

Phone storage had showed as having just 11.3MB space free from 14.3MB after everything has been deleted.

Final thing through all the various steps I had taken the IMEI number appears to have been removed, which I have read is common.
Luckily I located what it was from Google Dashboard but within there the device shows with two IMEI numbers.
I have attempted to re-set the IMEI number within MTKdroid but it appears to get wiped, any advice on this?
Should I be entering both IMEI numbers as 1 and 2 or one IMEI as 1 and 2?

Hope someone is able to help with both the above - storage space / unable to install SU binary issue and IMEI?

Thanks

Hi,

I have followed those.steps twice and still get su binary error.
May be because it cannot install due to lack on space on internal memory?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

i new see problem like this,
but can you upload your screenshot of your phone.
with spec ?
believe it or not i've been able root my phone which have same with yours (S4 clone mt6572) and also galaxy note 3 clone (mt6572)

Hi,

Did you have the same issues as I had with my handset, with the lack of app storage / internal storage space and su binary?
After your root did you resolve the storage issue if it was an issue for you?

Please find the screenshot attached.

UBIFS FileSystem ! is mentioned - not sure if that is relevant.

Hope you can help with a solution.

Thanks

Hi,

I have downloaded mtkdroid 2.5.2
I have pressed the root button (assume you mean this and not recovery and boot) and it states:

Hi,

Can you please which guide steps I should be following?

At the link there are two versions of the exe file and also a show content which opens up the archive file.

Under show content it states - Owners 6572 with ubifs and other platforms can be downloaded only for curiosity

So I guess there is no point in me following that.

However there is a mini guide which I have copied below:

For test UBIFS devices.. Makes three types files of ubifs blocks:
system.ubifs.tar . Archive not for FlashTool!
system.ubifs.img . Not for FT, but there is an opportunity to make the file for FT under Linux
nodl_system.bin . For testing! On responses of some owners is suitable for FT. Demands check.
No guarantees, on your own risk!
The request to owners of UBIFS devices to send log.txt and scatter files, as in the description for v2.5.2b

Do you mean did I follow this?
Can you please advise how I should do the above in more basic instructions as I've not done this before?

Thanks
